Meet One Of The Leading Female DJ’s Who Hustles & Juggles Between Three Jobs

Apart from the numerous advantages that come with being a celebrity, more than everybody else, they are prone to made up scandals and derogative comments. A while ago, rumor had it that she was dating Jimnah Mbaru

“I was very hurt for his family. He is a respectable man and it’s such a shame for me to be associated with him in that light,” says Pierra Makena to the Buzz, Daily Nation

She is a woman who has achieved a lot and juggles between three jobs; she is an actor, works in brand assets management at Ogilvy and a deejay by night and she is good at all of them.

“I hustle and juggle a lot of stuff because one thing might not always work out and there are opportunities to do other things. When an opportunity presents itself, I always go for it. But if you look at the things I do they somehow complement each other,” explains

Her passion for her three jobs is because they are correlated adding that she got into radio because she has always loved deejaying. Born in Meru, she grew up in an artistic environment and with her parents’ support, she begun acting and singing in church and youth camps before making it to television

“I started acting when I was very young, and that’s one thing that can’t be taken away from me. I really love all of them and I do my agency work because at the end of the day it’s what I studied for and my kids have to one day go to private schools. But if you really insist, I would chose acting then ask to be given a role as a deejay,” she says.

Do people take her seriously in the corporate world?
“Yes and No. Yes because I deliver every time and no because they are always like, Pierra play something for us. Anything about music they will ask me. But when it comes down to it my boss and clients are happy, that’s why I still have my job,” she is quoted by the Buzz

She got into deejaying 10 years ago but says that it is quite hard to fight to be at the top in the male dominated deejaying industry.

“Some people don’t believe that a female deejay can do it and it is especially annoying when women look at you and think, she can’t do it. I’ve experienced that a lot of times and what’s worse is when they call a man to come and help yet I can do the same thing sometimes even better,” she adds.

Last year she had deejayed in New York for the Nigerian community and on July 2nd she started a three week USA tour where she was to tour ten states

And what’s her ultimate goal as Dj Pierra?

“I want to be an international star. I want to be David Guetta, and play at Tomorrowland Music Festival and curtain raise for big artistes like Jay Z. I’m making my first stride…,” she says.

She has been in a number of productions through talent but do her looks have a hand in it?

Yes, it’s so wrong but it’s true. We are lucky to be females and good looking. Sometimes you will get a role because of your looks but beauty is in how confident you are,” she adds

She also shares her secret in landing major acting roles
“I’m a very humble person and I listen when I’m told something. I don’t mind being corrected and that’s one thing that has helped me immensely. It is not about the money but the passion and that’s one thing that has taken me far

And what is her advice to those who would like to venture into the acting world?

“First, do not give up, nothing good comes easy. I auditioned for Changes and it took them two years to call me. It was a big deal because it was going to air on M-Net, I prayed about it and I got a call back and was given the main role. Your big break will come,” says Pierra.
