She adds that, “ The people that they come across during the internship form a strong network for job search as they are already established in their careers and can provide contacts when job searching.”

Ms Kamau explains that, “Internships are a unique learning opportunity; embrace the mistakes that you’ll make and the many things that you won’t know. Internships also gives an allowance to ask questions, observe, and take risks which helps in skills development.

As Ms. Kamau puts it, most students enter college with no idea of what it takes to be in the career path they chose and most end up changing their minds, internships gives work experience which is a great way for students to acquaint themselves with a field they are looking to learn about.

When studying for a certain course it’s likely that it has many open avenues for careers, like say communication where you can work in the electronic media or say print.

Ms Kamau says that, “One of the many great advantages that internships offer students is that it enables them to try on many different careers during their time as a student.”

“An internship can boost your CV if the kind of internship one pursues is in line with their work. It kick starts your career, but it also depends with the kind of a supervisor one gets ,if they are professionals and dedicated to their work, then you become a professional,” she concludes .
