HR Secrets! BEST Time To Apply For a Job & Get Invited For an Interview.

By Jane Okoth,
One job seeker revealed that he once applied for a job by handing over his application to the company’s employee.

The employee had assured him that once he dropped the letter on his behalf, it would be “considered” and this would increase his chances of getting invited for an interview

Another one thought that applying for a vacancy close to the deadline was safe because the recruiters would have a chance to look at them all.

Many questions have been raised about the exact proximity and the manner in which one should apply for a job once they happen to see a vacancy.

“Apply for that job vacancy once you see it right away,” advices Lillian Omolo, a Human Resource manager at Bible Society of Kenya.

She also adds that “You maybe need a day or two to organize your papers but it is very important that you do it as soon as possible. If you decide to apply later that might show that you are not at all ready and will reflect that you are not properly organized.”

On the issue of finding a company’s employee to forward your application, she says, “I do not agree with that idea at all as you should go after the company yourself. Directly approaching the employee means that you are canvassing or are not sure with yourself and this may lead to automatic disqualification if you are discovered. Just do the application yourself.”

Mark Muthama, a job seeker claimed that he was advised applying twice will ensure that his CV is recognized.

“According to the vacancy, we were required to apply online but I was advised by a friend to do so and also hand deliver,” he says.

Lillian says that “If you apply twice you are giving the person who is recruiting a very hard time.”

With the current technology the issue of hand delivering your application letter is a thing of the past. Your CV will be trashed if you ever attempt doing that.”

She also adds that “Most of the companies that you apply for jobs normally give you an automatic response.

It is also better to follow up and inquire whether you were shortlisted because in most adverts they say only shortlisted companies will be contacted.”

What is her final advice to job seekers out there?

“Always follow instructions. Once you come across a vacancy apply immediately and follow the right channel,” she says.

“If a vacancy asks for online application just do that because otherwise you will be ruining your chances of being shortlisted,” she concludes.
