Top 5 Interview Questions & Answers For Internal Auditor Jobs

An Auditor is tasked with looking at the finances of a company in terms of accuracy, completeness, compliance and also advice on growing concern about the business.

In other words, he or she must ensure that what has been put by the accountant is accurate and pass judgment as to whether a business has a chance of survival or not.

Here is a sample interview questions and answers for an internal auditor from Perminus Wainaina, a lead Recruitment Manager at Corporate Staffing Services

1. Tell me about yourself
The answer to this question should include your name age and a brief professional background. Always start and stick to your job description because they always account for up to 90% of the interviews.

My name is Peninan Achieng, aged 25 years with degree in Accounting. I have worked at Mwalimu Sacco as an internal auditor for the past 2 years. My working experience has enabled me to gain immense interest in Audit Management as well as undertake wider office duties besides my job description.

2. Why should we hire you?
With this question, your interviewer is asking you to convince him that you are the right person for the job.

Again remember to refer to the job description and study the most important qualification needed from the company’s perspective.

“I have all of the skills and experience that you’re looking for and I’m confident that I would be the right candidate for the position.

In my 2 years of experience as an internal auditor, I have had strong interpersonal and accuracy skills which enabled me to gain experience in conducting audit reviews and policy development.”

My communication and presentation skills have enabled me to plan, execute and report on compliance and operational audits.

3. What are your strengths?
This is a commonly asked question in job interviews for all levels of positions in all industries.

The best way to respond is to describe the skills and experience that directly correlate with the job you are applying for.

“I am a great problem solver as I have the ability to see a situation from different perspectives and I can get my work done even in the face of difficult obstacles. My time management skills are excellent and I’m organized, efficient, and take pride in excelling at my work.”

4. How do you handle pressure?
Answering this question well will give the interviewer a clear picture about how well you can work in stressful situations.

Say that you are organized and usually plan ahead to meet project deadlines. Tell the interviewer pressure motivates you to perform better and that you typically work well in these situations.

“I’m the kind of person who stays calm under pressure, and handles stress fairly easily. in fact pressure motivates me to even perform better.”

5. What Are Your Career Goals?
The response you give should be connected it with the kind of job you applied for as you explain how you would like to progressively grow in your position

“My career goal is to learn more from the company as it grows, gain additional experience and move on from my entry level position to a managerial role.”

Mr Wainaina concludes by saying that the success of your interview will depend on your preparedness and how well you shape your answers.

“Bad answers can make a perfectly qualified individual miss out on his dream job so be sure to tailor your responses,” he concludes.
