This is the main reason why some graduates will never get a job in kenya, while their counterparts who they have graduated with land big jobs after graduation. If you want to get hired, you need to step up your game and find someone influential to get you through the door.
This is especially true if you are looking to get a job in some government parastatals. Who you know will determine whether your application will get through the job or not.
2. You attended the ‘wrong’ university

3. You are the ‘wrong’ tribe
Tribalism in the job market is a ghost from the past that still lives in Kenya today. In certain companies, the only reason you will never be hired there is your tribe. This happens mostly because of stereotyping ad other related issues.
This practice is especially very common at the County level. In a case where you do not hail from the county offering the job, you shouldn’t hope to get a call for an interview. The truth is that very few counties hire people from outside the county.
The truth of the matter is that you cannot choose what tribe you are born into. There is not much you can do in this case, except hope that one day, your qualifications will speak for you.
4. You rely solely on job boards for the latest vacancies
There are those job seekers who will not be bothered to go the extra mile in the job search. They will usually subscribe to job boards and sit at home waiting for daily job alerts. On average, they will spend less than an hour a day sending out applications.

A good example is the media industry. Sometimes, the positions are filled internally and by the time they get posted on job boards, the positions have already been filled. As such, relying on these job boards alone will make you never get a job in Kenya.
The job search is frustrating and that is why most job seekers give up searching and try their hand at entrepreneurship. You have to remember nothing comes easy. Not networking hard and being resilient are the main reasons you will never get a job in Kenya. Wishing you the best in your job search.
