So the holidays are finally here. It’s time to kick back and spend some time with family. But if you don’t have a job, it means you can’t afford to just be merry all through. 2017 is only days away. Most companies will have resumed duties which mean more companies will be hiring like crazy. So why not keep your job search right on track even as you enjoy the festive season goodies?
You may be looking for that job that will kick start a lucrative career for you since you are just out of school. You maybe there and you are not comfortable in your current position and you are dying to have something new come next year. Whichever category you are this job search related article is fit for you.
Ways You Can Keep Your Job Search Active When Celebrating
When it comes to job search, there is no resting unless you have found your dream job. So how do you ensure that you don’t get off the track just because it’s the festive season?
1. Keep looking for jobs
Just because its December doesn’t mean companies have their ideal personnel. If you search career and job search sites like Career Point Kenya, there are so many companies hiring this December that you should take advantage of. Don’t just wait until January to start your job search. Do it now! Ensure that you apply to at least three jobs in a day and I can assure you that you won’t miss a short listing in at least one come next year.
2. Make achievable career and job search goals
One of the things that make us unique as Kenyans is how we love making New Year resolutions and then realizing towards the end of the year that you have achieved nothing. So this year, make it different. Instead of setting goals about how you are going to get a job in theta multinational or that international NGO, when don’t you start from the bottom?
Small companies may not offer the best pay as compared to big ones but it’s a great place to kick start your career. So let one of your New Year resolutions be getting a job that can give you the experience or key skills you require to start a career.
3. Take advantage of the Christmas party to network
Holidays are the time when people are gathering to celebrate the birth of our Lord as well as usher in a new year. You will attend at least one event during this time from the usual family gathering to external events. Why not make these events work for you in the long run?
While at it, create networks who can help you secure a job come next year because after all the celebration, it will be you alone visiting job sites trying to figure out which position you qualify for. And again if there is one this on this face of the earth that will never go wrong if you chose the right people is networking.
They say the only limit to what you can achieve is yourself. Yes holidays are a time to relax and reward yourself for the year that was. But as you enjoy those nyama chomas, please do some justice to your job search campaign. Don’t abandon it just because it’s the end of the year. Njaanuary will soon be here!
