Ask HR: Should I Apply For A Job In The Same Company That Fired Me

Ask HR: Should I Apply For A Job In The Same Company That Fired Me

“I Was Fired From My Last Job and The Company Is Currently Hiring For new Positions that I Am Qualified For. Should I Apply?”

“I worked in this big multinational for about a year and was dismissed for having a bad relationship with my line manager.

This was hard for me, but I learnt a big lesson from the situation and moved on.

It is now slightly over a year, but still yearn to work for the same company and in fact I have information that they’re recruiting for positions I am qualified for.

Is it right for me to apply for the position?”

First, it’s unfortunate that you were fired and I am glad you took some time to think about what happened between you and your manager.

No one wants to be fired because it makes you resent the employer who sent you packing. But in your case, you have remained positive and you even say that you regret your misconduct.

So, should you apply for this new vacant position that you feel you qualify for within the same company?

Muthoni Ndegwa, a Senior Recruitment Manager at Corporate Staffing Services advises that you should not apply for this new position.

4 Reasons Why You Should Not Apply For This Job

1. It may not be the best environment to go back to

Having said that you had a bad relationship with your line Manager, consider that if you got this job, you would have to work with the same manager. Remember you were in conflict and this it might cause a lot of tension.

It will make things very uncomfortable for you and those you worked with.

It sure might take some getting used to, but generally, going back to the same Company will not be the best environment.

2. Your Old Company might not be as stimulating

Remember you used to work here, therefore, there won’t be anything new to look forward to. Sure, you might have loved your job and been content with it, but get a more stimulating opportunity by applying for new jobs.

3. Your Chances of getting this job are very slim

People forgive, but sometimes they don’t forget. Your chances of getting this job after what happened between you and your line manager will be very slim.

Instead of going through that frustration, just let this opportunity go.

HOWEVER….

In the case that you were fired for redundancy reasons and not misconduct, applying for this position would be a great idea.

Redundancy might have made you be among those who were laid off, and now the Company might be opening up new positions that you qualify for.

If this has been the case, I’d have advised that you apply for this position.

Seek out other opportunities

Even though you loved working for this Multinational Company, and you even mention that you miss working there, you need to look for other opportunities.

There are so many opportunities for you out there and you should move on from the idea that only this Company can make you happy.

Put your faith out there and apply for other jobs that you qualify for. You might be surprised to find that opening a new chapter of your life by getting a new job is just what you needed.

A new environment might open up new opportunities for you that you didn’t think possible.

But as it is, look for new opportunities. Great things await you!
