3. Think before you buy

Most of us are victims of purchasing things simply because they happen to be in stock. If you are about to lose our job believe me when I say that this is one of the practices you don’t need.

Before you buy, think. Do you really need this item?

In short, what I am saying is you should buy something only when you need it.

For instance don’t purchase a rice cooker, simply because you saw one on a cooking show and it got you thinking that your life would be so much better if you had one.

4. Think about what you spend commuting

Review what you spend commuting each day. Do you have your own car? Think about other alternatives you could do with. You would probably save that money you use on fuel and maintenance if you used public means.

I am sure it won’t hurt to ride in a matatu for a few weeks or months before you land another job.

5. Know your options and entitlements

This is the time you start taking seriously those labor laws on employment. Learn about what you are entitled to as an employee. You may be about to lose your job due to redundancy, get to know what the Kenyan labor law says about redundancy.

Do you have any insurance cover that protects you from job loss? If not this is the best time to get one.
