Job Outlook Survey: Where To Find Jobs in 2017

A survey released to the public yesterday by Corporate Staffing Services, in the presence of Local Media Houses in Kenya, indicates that the majority of job opportunities in 2017 will be found in Sales and Marketing at 30.1%.

1. Why Companies Will Be Looking For Sales and Marketing Staff in 2017 (30.1%)

Speaking at Laico Regency at the press briefing in the attendance of IHRM’s Executive Director, Mrs.Wainaina, Perminus Wainaina CEO of Corporate Staffing stated that there’s need for Sales and Marketing Professionals in the majority of companies because they are the main income generators. He also added that organizations are looking to increase their market reach, push revenue margins upwards and increase brand presence, and will, therefore, require sales and marketing professionals to drive this.

2. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Jobs (23%)

At 23%, ICT will be the second most sought after position in a majority of companies, in 2017. The survey dubbed ‘Job Outlook Survey 2017: Trends, Challenges and Future Outlook’ showed that ICT professionals are very key in the business of any company, and a good number of jobs will be in this sector.

The respondents to this survey were 892 HR professionals from 12 Sectors including the public sector, private sector and NGO’s, and at 23%, the respondents said that companies are looking to hire ICT professionals in 2017 because of various crucial business needs.

Reasons Why Companies Will Need ICT Services in 2017:

  1. To automate their service systems in these IT revolutions times.
  2. Public Service Institutions are looking to meet government targets on ICT integration in the Education Sector.
  3. Organizations need ICT technological support in the year.

3. Administration Jobs (22%)

According to the survey, 19 % of companies will not be hiring new positions in the remaining part of 2017. Thus, companies are only looking to retain top talent or make replacements in the course of the year.

However, companies will have vacancies in some of the critical roles that the company cannot do without, such as Administration, at 22%.

Firms will be looking for Administration Staff to act as their support system and to meet their daily obligations in the remaining part of 2017.

4. Accounting Jobs (21.1%)

The survey also showed that 21% of companies will be hiring Accounting staff, due to the new laws and regulations that govern organizations. As such, Accountants will be in high demand this year to help organizations with compliance and governance issues.

5. Technical Jobs (19.4%)

The survey established that technical staff are key people in all organizations and as a result, most organizations will be doing replacements round the year to fill the positions.

“Key technical skills that are in demand eg. Engineers and health specialists, as well as leadership roles, will also see an increase in compensation levels,” added Perminus Wainaina.
