5 Success Lessons To Learn From Caroline Mutoko

Caroline Mutoko is not a new name when it comes to the Media Industry. Most of us grew up listening to her on Kiss FM’s Big breakfast and we loved her for her voice, and her eloquent English.

Today, Caroline Mutoko is no longer a Radio host on Kiss FM, but the move to leave radio two years ago has seen her rise to even greater heights of success.  She is now the Chief Operating Officer of Radio Africa group which is the mother Company of Kiss TV, Classic 105 and Kiss 100.

Like many of us, Caroline Mutoko has not had an easy road to success, but today she enjoys a beautiful and comfortable lifestyle and there are many lessons we can pick from her.

Here are 5 things we can learn from Caroline Mutoko

1. Any job is better than no job

Her first job after high school was a Messenger job. She worked at Kirinyaga works as a Messenger where she picked calls and banked and collected  cheques for the company.

To some, being a messenger might have seemed like an odd job, but Carol understood that having a job was better than being idle.

2. Passion is greater than money

Caroline got a job at Capital FM where she hosted a show called the jam. For 7 good months she did not get any pay.

Her passion for her radio job was greater than the desire to get money at the end of the  month. We all need money to survive, but passion will ultimately bring in the money. To her, passion is what led to the big chunks of money.

You have to love your job more than the reward of getting the money, because when the passion dies, money also dies.

3. Stop buying junk

From her  YouTube Channel, Caroline Mutoko advices that people should invest in quality over quantity items. She proudly says that she only owns 3 watches which she wears on repeat and owns one quality handbag.

As a very successful woman, she confesses that  worrying about what to wear in the morning is not one of her priorities.

Caroline notices that many people have so many items in their houses that are not quality and even after buying so many clothes , they complain that they have nothing to wear.

This she says is wrong and is the leading cause of debt, being broke and money wastage. She advises that instead of having many low quality purchases, it is wiser to buy few quality items that meet all your needs .

4. Sometimes you have to move vertically in order to move horizontally.

After working for Capital FM back in the day, Caroline Mutoko had reached the highest level possible in her success as a radio person at Capital.

At the time, there was no room for her to rise. An opportunity at Kiss 100 came up and she had to make a choice of either staying at capital FM which was not offering her any more career growth or move to Kiss 100 FM where she would move higher in her Career.

After talking to a friend of her’s who had made a vertical move in their Career by moving to a different job that promised growth, Caroline Mutoko left Capital FM to join Kiss 100.

She says that had she stayed at Capital FM, she would not be where she is today.

She observes that some of us are scared of making changes in our jobs. But Caroline Mutoko advices that sometimes, in order to move horizontally, you have to move vertically first.

There’s not need of staying in a job where you have hit the ceiling. Make vertical moves in order to rise in your career.

5. Don’t trust success

According to Caroline, people define success very differently and depending on who’s definition you are celebrating yourself in, what happens is that is starts to define you.

She has watched many people become defined by people’s definition of success. People get into debt because they have been told that they now have to live in a certain place, drive a certain car, start to associate with certain people etc.  The problem with that is that they forget the reason why they became successful and become defined by that success.

She urges that you should not  trust people’s definition of success. “Success is fleeting,” she says. What matters, however, is how you feel when you’re doing what you’re doing and living your dream.

“Can you handle success?” She asks.  There’s a lot that comes with fame. If you love money, it will come, if you love alcohol and drugs it will come, but what she asks is whether or not you can survive when the success comes.

Remaining true to yourself, where you come from and your dreams is what will make you survive even as you become successful.
