What is a second interview?

For starters, just because you got a call for the second interview, it doesn’t mean that you got the job. Therefore, this is not the time to relax.

The first interview you attended was basically to help the hiring manager weed out unsuitable candidates. The second one is more in depth and is what will determine whether you get the job or not.

I some organisations this is when you meet your immediate boss and sometimes the CEO. So this is the time to bring your best.

1. You Might Find a Hidden Gem

James applied for a job via a recruitment firm and was called for an interview. He did well and was later contacted to attend a second interview. He was then given information on the hiring company and was told to do his own research.

After researching the organisation and looking at their website he felt like the company was too small and he would not get an opportunity to grow. He called the recruitment firm and told them he will not be able to attend the interview but is convinced to at least hear them out.

So James went for the interview and was given a job offer. He has been working at the company for 2 years now.

During the second interview where he got to meet representative from the company and found out that the company was actually big, he liked the culture, location not to mention that he got a very good offer as well.

Had he decided not to attend the interview he would have missed out on a great opportunity. The same applies to you, even if you don’t think you will take the job if it is offered.

It will not hurt to hear what it is about and then make a more informed decision. You never know you might just stumble upon a great opportunity.
