You probably know him for his ‘Wah mpoto!’ slogan. With a massive fan following and his strong Nigerian accent, he is definitely one artist who glues people on their TV sets with his jokes.

Obinna Ike Igwee has many feathers to his hat. He is a comedian, an emcee, TV and Radio host, musician and also an actor. Since his break through into the showbiz industry, he has been a rising star. His success can be attributed to his hard work and industrious nature.

He describes his career journey and how he started off.

“What people don’t know is that I started off as a musician before joining comedy, although my music didn’t do well,” he told Showbuzz.

For the top comedian, his story is nothing short of inspiring. Through his Facebook page he took time to thank God for the far He has brought him and shared his rags to riches story.

According to the Diaspora Messenger he reveals his rags to riches story through a Facebook status.

Here’s what the post read: “God I am grateful for this far you have brought me. Am grateful for all I have.I remember once I couldn’t pay rent for 3000/- , I remember once I couldn’t pay fare to town for 40/- , I remember once I couldn’t sleep peacefully coz of bedbugs, I remember once I couldn’t afford 3 meals in a day, I remember once I was at Industrial Area making Plastic, Offloading 90kgz maize bags from Lorries.”

He adds that, “I remember once I used to sleep in a Kiosk somewhere in Majengo, I remember when nobody knew me in This City and now I have at least 50,000 people paying attention when I speak, I remember being an office messenger somewhere in Westlands, I remember hitting rock bottom and even tried to end my life not once not twice but you still managed to bring me through coz you had a purpose for me and I hadn’t yet done it.”

His main motivation to achieve great things and work hard are his three kids and the fact that he wants to go international.

Having made a name for himself in the comedy scene and revived his music career making him a force to reckon with in the showbiz industry.

He hosts the Offside show with Otoyo, he was a co-host at Break Time and Comedy Club and the famed Homerun show on Easy FM.

Interestingly the popular comedian was once a preacher, he never watches horror movies because they give him nightmares, is a good cook and becoming a professional chef was once one of his dreams.

As described by The Standard he is one that takes quite some time before trusting a new friend and is an amazing dancer who can hardly resist the dance floor once good music is playing.

What drives him in terms of where he sees his career is that he plans to go international like comedians like Basket Mouth from Nigeria and do an annual gala comedy event with big comedians in Kenya.

What advice does he have for an upcoming comedian?

“People do not get helped, they get noticed. Nothing happens like you just wake up and everything falls in place. Hard work pays and God helps those who help themselves. Also put God before everyone,” he concludes
