Quacks To Be Faced Out As New HR Law Takes Effect January 2014
One question for you….Are you are quack masquerading as a professional in the Human Resource Industry? Your days are numbered as the new HR law will take effect come January 2014.
Lawyers are regulated, Accountants and also Engineers so why not those who hire and fire…those in Human Resource Management?
You had all year to get your act together and meet all the HR provisions and come January if you my dear friend will not have met those requirements, you will be canned.
And the requirements are these:
For starters, those in HR managerial positions should have a practising certificate starting from January 4, 2014 an effort which will help wipe out the quacks that have infiltrated the field in what used to be an ungoverned industry.
According to Section 18 (1) act of the to be introduced law it states that, “A person shall practice as a human resource management professional if he the holder of a practising certificate.”
And that’s not just it….here is more
a)To be licensed, applicants should be members of IHRM. Here is how to
b) If you are registered, you will have to have earned a minimum of six credits through what is referred to as Continued Professional Development (CPD)
c) For you to be licensed and move up the ladder, as a professional you will have to continually upgrade your professional portfolio and make certain grades.
d) You will be categorized into three hierarchical levels of membership where you will have to part with annual fee. They are: Full Membership for Sh 4,500, Associate for Sh4,000 and Fellow for Sh7,000
But won’t this make HR to become for the selected few considering more than 6,000 of those practising do not have professional training?
“The spirit is not to lock out members but to make sure the profession grows. The law will enable us to face a future where HR practitioners are respected,” quipped Paul Kasimu.
He went on to add that HR practitioners shouldn’t be seen as just paper pushers or administrators, hirers or firers.
