Mozilla Firefox CEO Quits His Job Over Gay Marriage Saga

The Chief Executive Officer of Mozilla Firefox Brendan Eich has stepped down from his job after an online dating service (OkCupid.com) urged a boycott of the web browser after he made a hefty donation to opponents  of gay marriage.

Reuters reports that, Mr Eich gave money to oppose the legalization of gay marriage in California. “We didn’t act like you would expect Mozilla to act,” wrote Mozilla’s executive Chairwoman Michelle Baker in a blog post.

With the stepping down of Mr Eich, who invented the programming language Javascript and co-founded Mozilla, the leadership of the company is still being discussed according to Michelle Baker.

His resignation came days after okcupid.com sent a message to visitors who accessed the website through firefox asking that they use browsers such as Microsoft Corp’s Internet Explorer or Google Inc’s Chrome.

“Mozilla’s new CEO Brendan Eich is an opponent of equal rights for gay couples,” the message read, “We would therefore prefer that our user not use Mozilla software to access OkCupid.
