6 Job Search Success Tips to Make Yourself Irresistible to HR Managers
By Dorcas Karuana,
Are you looking to get a job in the near future? If so, you are going to have to make yourself look as good to employers as possible.
The job market today is very competitive, and it is important to empower yourself by knowing what you want, what you have to offer, and how to ask for it.
The goal of employers in today’s job market is to find the “ideal” candidate for every job opening. Therefore, the goal of every jobseeker should be to present themselves as the ideal candidate by differentiating and communicating the value you offer your target employers over others competing for the same job.
So what are some things that you can do to have recruiters beating down your door with job offers?
1. Define yourself & become an expert in your field.
In a world where people have the same qualifications and struggling for the same opportunities; you will need to do some vital soul searching to determine exactly who you are and what makes YOU unique. Have something related to your career reputation as well as the way your peers see you which should be unique and interesting.
2. Create an online Brand- All of your online profiles to match brand you; whether on face book, linked in, twitter e.tc. Make your brand memorable by being clear and consistent and repetitive with your brand. Employers will always refer to your online image to get to know you even before they meet you in person.
3. Have a catchy cover letter- A cover letter is the first point of contact between you and your potential employer and it should therefore portray you in the best light. It should highlight why you are the best candidate for that post. While every element of your cover letter is important, HR Managers will never tell you that the cover letter introduction is just a bit more significant. It works as the bait to lure the HR and encourage them to learn more about you.
4. Have a creative CV that matches the job- Your CV is like an advertisement of you. Therefore, it should be memorable and stand out from the crowd. If you are looking for a job in sales or marketing needs to promote themselves very effectively. While you don’t want to attach any photos or use crazy fonts, you can have fun with the format, style and other aspects of the document. Whatever you do, make sure that it is easy to read and informative.
5. Be confident when approaching potential employers – If you approach employers at job fairs or trade shows, do so with confidence. Use a strong handshake and a big smile to show that you are at ease with the employers and want to talk business. Research has shown that smiling indicates that you are happy and energetic. Those are the people who employers want to hire.
6. Impress in job Interviews – Be confident by preparing in advance, and sell your brand the interviewers. For instance, if you are interviewing for Sales position, confidence, trustworthy, inspired people are key personal branding characteristics you need to highlight. Sales are all about relations and creating networks with people which the company will translate to increase sales and customer loyalty.
When the tell us about yourself question is thrown in your face; say how your confidence and dedication helped you increase sales for a particular company that you might have worked for in the past. Remember it’s your chance to shine and prove why you should be picked instead of the other thousand applicants waiting by the reception
In conclusion, it is easier than you may think to make yourself look irresistible to a job recruiter. By coming off as a professional who is serious about finding a job and adding something to a company, the odds that you find a job increase significantly.
