8 Questions You Need To Ask Yourself Before Giving Up on Your Dreams

There will always be those moments when you feel like your dream is not attainable and you decide to give up on it. It may be the dream to get a new car or get a well paying job or even quitting wasting your life away.

When that moment comes it would be wise to ask yourself the following questions before throwing in the towel.

1. Why did I want to pursue this dream?
There has to be a good reason for your dream. But since your attempts have failed you decide to let go. Perhaps you envisioned yourself in your own business but finances seem to go to other places such as hospital bills or increased rent. If you hold on for longer, will it b worth it?

2. Have I overwhelmed myself with too much information?
With the information age too much information is available it is easy to google the “How To’s” the “Tips On”. As a result more time is used in planning not acting because these articles have different views. You can narrow down your information consumption and start small.

3. Did I set smart goals?
Were your goals specific, measurable, attainable, realistic or time bound? If you do not know exactly what you want it will be hard for you to succeed. Will you be willing to walk away when you did not give yourself the best shot at achieving your dream? Reset your goals and keep soldiering on.

4. What’s the worst that will happen if I keep going and don’t reach my goal?
Human beings are afraid of failing. You are afraid that your family will be disappointed in your failure or judge you. You are afraid that time will be wasted in the whole process. People learn through experience. How will you know your limits or the far you can go if you do not try?

5. Am I afraid of succeeding?
Perhaps you have wondered what will happen if you succeed in your dream. For example if your business venture will rake in millions. With success comes responsibility and responsibility is something people avoid. But remember when you succeed you will be an inspiration for others.

6. Am I acting on emotions instead of thinking things through?
It is advisable not to act in the moment of intense emotions. Wait for that emotion wave to pass before making a decision lest you regret making that decision. Make a decision in peace and clarity of mind.

7. Would I enjoy giving the honest explanation for why I gave up?
Would you enjoy telling your mother that you stopped trying to quit alcohol because alcohol makes you feel better? Probably not
Come to think of it when you envision that conversation of you explaining why you let go it would be more sensible to hold on to that dream.

8. How much have I already put in?
If you have invested a lot in something it will be hard to just walk away. Consider the time, money and sacrifices you devoted to your dream. Are you willing to flush it all away?

It is important to encourage yourself and keep working toward that dream no matter how hard it is.
