How I Got a Job as Kethi Kilonzo’s Personal Assistant & My Working Experience

By Tabitha Makumi,
Personal Assistant jobs are some of the coveted jobs in Kenya where most people crave to work for managers, directors, CEO’s or known figures. That said, Career Point Kenya recently spoke to a former employee with Kilonzo & Company Advocates and this is her story.

How did you get a job with one of the top law firms in Kenya?

The job (Front office receptionist) was not advertised. I was fresh after my college and I was going from office to office dropping my CV. Kilonzo & Company Advocates was among the Companies of which I left my CV.

After one month, I was called for the first interview, and after two months I was called for the second interview where I secured a job as a Receptionist.

How was the interview process?
It was both oral and written where I was asked questions on my academic background and past working experience.

How was the working environment?
To be honest, it was very good but very challenging.

For how long did you work with the law firm?
Seven years

Did you ever get promoted?
Yes. After working as a Receptionist for three and half years, I was promoted to a PA/Secretary to one of the Company Partner (Kethi Kilonzo)

What kind of challenges did you face while working there?
It wasn’t easy for me to attend my evening classes.

What is the best experience to have come out your working experience with the firm?
I can say I became a better person, I also learnt to listen to others and see the good in people and above all, I improved my skills and grew professionally.

What didn’t you like while working there?
Honestly, I hated going to the office late. I always wanted to be in the office early and start my day well.

Would you recommend others to work with the firm?
Yes. Anyone interested BUT he/she must very hardworking

As a former employee, what would you tell/advice the top management at the firm?
Bravo!
