5 Things To ALWAYS Consider When You Have Two Or More Job Offers

By Elizabeth Benu,
As a job seeker how would you react if you got multiple job offers; say two or three offers? I am guessing excited is a hyperbole for the feeling. But when it finally hits you that you have a decision to make, it brings upon anxiety and confusion.

With proper guidance and information it will be easy to make an informed decision on the problem. Even if you are not in that position right now, maybe at some point you will be. Here is what to consider when you have two or more job offers.

1. The type of company.
“Compare the companies in terms of stability and reputation. What do you stand to gain in that company? For example compare a company like Safaricom and an unknown company which you are unsure about its stability, which one would you pick?,” poses Martin Githaiga a HR Officer at Corporate Staffing Services.

2. Salary
“A job seeker is usually interested in the salary package that a job offers. At this point choose a job that meets your expectations more. You would want to choose a better paying job that rhymes with your financial needs,” says Mr. Githaiga.

3. Job Title / Positions
“If you had a job offer of a Human Resource Officer and a Human Resource Clerk it is more likely that you choose the Human Resource Officer position. At this point carefully choose the job that closely matches your skills,” Mr. Githaiga advices.

4. Finer Details Of The Job
If after the first three factors you cannot make a decision, get into the finer details of the job.

“These details include the reporting culture of the organization, responsibilities and a comfortable working environment among many. Remember at this point you are spoilt for choice and you can choose to do away with the company that does not appeal to you,” he adds.

5. Career Advancement
“This is very important. Which of the jobs is more promising in terms of your career growth? Look at your career ambition and question if the job will fulfill your ambition earlier or later. In career advancement also put into consideration the satisfaction and job security you will get from the said job. These are vital in career advancement,” states Mr. Githaiga.

Mr. Githaiga is fast to note that for one to make an informative decision it is important they lay down the pros and cons of the jobs and evaluate which one meets their needs.

“To do that you have to carry out a research and then choose your best company,” he adds.

Now that you have chosen the job you want, how do you handle informing the rest of the employers who had settled on you?

Mr. Githaiga advices that when turning down one of the positions it should be done professionally and early enough so that the company makes plans to get someone else for the job.

“Do not drag the time. Take a few days to make the decision and then contact the company which you declined their offer. You can make an official phone call or a follow up email explaining your accurate reasons. You never know, they may give a counter offer,” he concludes.

Make the right choice without second-guessing yourself and put the right foot forward in your chosen job.
