Dealing With Being Fired- Co-op Bank Denies Plan to Cut Jobs

By Jane Okoth,
Job insecurity is probably one of the employee’s worst nightmares as it creates confusion and uncertainty.

The worst feeling in the world is hearing that your company is in the process of restructuring itself and you don’t know if you will be the victim in this case.

In this economic state, many companies are cutting jobs in an effort to reduce expenses.

In an article published by the business daily, Cooperative bank has hired Mc Kinsey and co, a global consultant firm that is associated with organizational restructuring that will eventually lead to loss of jobs.

The bank has since denied these allegations and claims that the firm has been hired to enhance operational efficiency.

Mc Kinsley firm is notorious with job cuts when undertaking restructuring contracts as it has done so with KCB, Barclays and The National Bank when hired.

However the cooperative bank managing director Gideon Muriuki says that “The review is expected to enhance the bank’s growth momentum improving the group’s organization structure, operating models and enhancing operational efficiency to deepen customer experience,”

No one would want to be in the shoes of employees whose company has hired such a firm.

One thing to understand is that it is not your fault that you are going to lose your job as No manager takes pleasure in letting you go so that the company can survive.

How would you handle it if your fear becomes a reality? Below are several tips from HR Managers on how to deal with such cases.

Adopt a positive attitude- fear is oppressive and can affect your performance at work because one tends to lose morale.

Anxious employees are less productive because they are in constant fear of making mistakes or doing anything wrong.

Make up a resolution to strike off fear in your working environment.

Being fired or laid off is not that horrible- it may turn out that getting fired may be a blessing in disguise because it will enable you to find a better job.

Do not be embarrassed that your friends will find you in the house instead of being at work and start asking uncomfortable questions.

Understand the reason for your dismissal- if you are one of the unlucky employees who were downsized, it is not your fault.

Widen your job search and cut on your spending so that you are not dependent on that last pay check.

Re invent yourself- perhaps you have that big break you needed and this may be the time to reflect on your life.

Are you going through the same situation and what are your experiences so far?
