Reporter Quits Her Job By Cursing On Air. What Do you Think About This?
By Jane Okoth,
Charlo Greene, a reporter at CBS affiliate KTVA media in Alaska is trending worldwide because of her dramatic exit from the media house.
The incident happened when Charlo was doing a news segment on the Alaska cannabis club while also revealing that she owns the marijuana club she was reporting on then exited with explicit words.
“Now everything you’ve heard is why I, the owner of the Alaska Cannabis Club, will be dedicating all of my energy toward fighting for freedom and fairness, which begins with legalizing marijuana here in Alaska,” Greene said on air. “And as for this job, well, not that I have a choice but, f*** it, I quit.”
The former reporter then defended her dramatic exit through the Alaska Dispatch News saying it was her attempt to bring attention to the issue of marijuana legalization, and apologized for offending anyone.
Which is the smartest and most professional way to quit a job?
Charley Polachi, a partner at Polachi Access Executive ,advices in the business news daily that one should be as professional as ever.
“You will not gain anything from being rude to your employer and also try to look at the long term and how it will affect your future employment opportunities.” He says.
“Remember your boss will be one of the people contacted when you are looking for future employment positions.” He adds.
Jeff Gordon, founder of internet marketing firm Interactive99 says in the business daily news that giving enough notice is equally important.
“This will give the company a smooth time to find a suitable replacement.”
Peninah Mumbua, a teacher at a local primary school in the city faults the manner in which the reporter used terming it as unprofessional.
“How do you go about using inappropriate language on air and you claim to be a journalist. Journalists are taught code and ethics in college and should learn to apply that.”
“I do not agree with that reporter at all,” says Mary Mureithi a businesswoman. “I think she was just trying to advertise her drug business by using the media. That behavior should be discouraged and it does not matter whether your boss was unfair to you he or she deserves respect.”
How did you quit your last job and do you agree with the reporter’s way of leaving the company?
