Six Ways to Make a Recruiter Hate You

If you want a job so badly, your desperation can drive you to go to certain extremes that may annoy the person you really want to impress.

Here are six sure ways that may hurt your chances of getting that dream job.

1. Get too personal
Being personal in an interview is OK but not too much. Being too personal can sound suspicious and also a bit creepy to the recruiter.

2. Using unnecessary Language and stupid CV Tricks
Using the gimmicky CV is one indication to the recruiter that you are not taking him or the job seriously.

Tactics such as putting glitter in your envelope or printing your CV in different colors will just annoy the recruiter.

3. Be Rude and Aggressive
Job hunters who have a habit of using heavy handed tactics like sending an angry email in all caps because you did not pass the interview will not impress the recruiter.

Some candidates who are frustrated by the job search may feel the need to take it out on the recruiter by bullying them and this will not make them take you.

4. Lie
Lying can give you a pass at one interview but once the employer finds out, all your efforts would be put to waste.

Lying in the CV can be interpreted as desperate times calling for desperate measures. But once the recruiter finds out especially if you misinterpret the dates, times, duties and technical responsibilities, he will never trust you and worse call you again.

5. Stalk the Recruiter
A suggestion to “stay in touch” does not mean twice or daily follow ups. If it has been a week and you haven’t been contacted, it doesn’t mean you are forgotten.

A recruiter who thinks that you are fit for the position will let you know right away. Calling them constantly and demanding to be hired to a company will show how desperate you are and even a little scary.

6. Act like You Don’t Care
Sending the same pile of cover letters addressed to “sir” or “madam” of your last recruiter is one indication of a don’t care attitude. The recruiter will take offence and not call you because of your dismissive attitude.

Always Be Professional. Professionals say that while one mistake will not create hatred, it can put you to the list of non desirable candidates in the recruiters list.

Some of the worst behaviors come from job hunters who don’t really understand how a recruiter workers.
Even if the recruiter is not acting in a professional and diligent manner as expected, you have still need to be professional.
