“This is What I Would Do If I Was in William Ruto’s Shoes,” Employees Speak Out
By Jane Okoth.
The handing over of President Uhuru Kenyatta to deputy president William Ruto has been the talk of many in the streets.
According to an article posted by the standard, President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed his deputy William Ruto to act as acting president while he attends a status conference in The Hague.
How would you react if your boss left you in charge for a day or two and what would be your greatest fear?
Career Point talked to a few Kenyan employees what they would do if they were in the same shoes as Ruto.
Stella Karimi, an operations officer at a local N.G.O recalls the moment her supervisor handed over to her while he was away.
“I was really overwhelmed by the work load. I could hardly rest because errand had to be run all the time,” she recalls.
Apart from that my experience was good. I can say that some of the junior employees felt a bit intimidated by my presence but in the end they cooperated with me. I managed the department very well in a professional manner,” she says.
“I would really appreciate the move if the boss assigned me his duties while he is away because not only does it mean that he trusts me to do the work but he has a lot of confidence in me.
I would be greatly humbled by the position and work well till my boss returns,” says Collins Ndege a clerk at an IT company in the CBD.
Linet Wayua a nurse at a private hospital was not sure whether she could handle her new responsibilities.
“I was left with a pile of work, loads of responsibilities and many people to attend to. Fear took the better part of me because I was afraid of messing up things.
I can say it was very challenging and tiring because I did not even know if the day was over. I am not sure if I can handle the same responsibilities again,” she says.
Meanwhile, Kenyans on twitter were taking the president’s decision on a lighter note and decided to make it a trending topic on social media.
With the hash tags #thingspresidentRutoshouldaddress, they decided to note down what they thought he should address.
Here are some of the tweets were trending from Tuesday evening and are still trending today.
@VictorMochere #thingspresidentRutoshouldaddress declare @UKenyatta a ghost worker and be removed from payroll
@tipsygirlchema #thingspresidentRutoshouldaddressvhe should be thinking of how to move to statehouse
@OindoAtera: #ThingsPresidentRutoShouldAddress have all kalenjin athletes who have moved abroad come back home
Have you ever been asked to stand in for your boss and if not would you undertake the risk if asked to?
