How did you get the internship at the media organization?
One of my friends informed me from a tipoff from the company employee. I then applied and was selected as an intern.
What kind of interview questions were you asked?
The questions varied from the panel interviewers but what they wanted to know more is tell me about yourself and do you have any sample works that we can see? Good for me I had some.
Which department were you stationed in?
I was stationed in the news section department
What were your working hours?
I use to arrive at the office by 7:30am and leave during late hours. That was really not a problem because I was provided transport by the company to my doorstep.
What were your roles as an intern?
I was assigned as a reporter. My duties were doing interviews, making news items and also as a features writer. I also got a chance to work with other reporters too.
Was it a paid internship?
The internship was unpaid
How did you make ends meet?
I sometimes relied on my parents for support though I was sometimes assigned to do other duties which I got paid for.
What important skills did you learn from the opportunity?
I was able to further nurture my communication skills and flexibility was also learned during my internship. I also learned how to cope with pressure considering how busy any TV station is.
Do you think having interned at royal media gave you an edge when you were job searching?
It definitely did. Including where I interned in my CV really meant a lot on my CV and is the reason why I have my current job.
What did you like the most about citizen as an intern?
Although I was not given the opportunity to be on air, I was proud by the fact that my hard work was put into practice. Some of the stories I contributed was on air and that felt really good.
What didn’t you like?
You know almost every intern complains about being used and my case is not different. Just because we were interns converted us into errand people.
Would you advice other graduates to seek internship with the media house?
Yes would be a very good experience. One important aspect that graduates need after school is the right skills and the media house will give you firsthand experience.
What’s your advice to the top management at Royal Media?
I hope they can be in a position to appreciate the interns maybe let them earn a little stipend to sustain themselves because we all have needs.
