The bigger question here is does it matter which university one attended and will it ever affect your chances of getting a job?
Carlos Makau, a lecturer at Egerton University does not think that it will impact your job search.
“I don’t think that is going to influence the decision of your recruiters,” he says.
“It used to happen like that sometimes ago but now it is different.”
However, he adds,” most recruiters prefer graduates who have been to public universities and I can tell you that based on my personal experience.”
Fridah Abuya, a human resource consultant with Virtual HR says “that on the issue of considering the university attended human resource personnel do differ.
We differ because some personnel may consider your potential rather than your own education attended because most of them would prefer a public university.” She says.
The HR consultant also adds that “In my view I will keenly look at a person’s qualification for the job and ask if that person has the potential to produce maximum results.
It is unfortunate that some recruiters would want to know the university you attended.”
And what is her opinion on the top five list of top learning institutions?
“We all go to university and all get degrees which are the same irrespective of courses undertaken.
I agree and also not agree because I do not want to be biased.
At the end of the day what matters is if you are able to put your four years of learning into practice,” she concludes.
What’s your take on this?
