What You Need To Know about KEPSA’s PAID 8 Months Training Program

Are you looking for a training and internships opportunity in the private sector that will help you grow?

The Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) is recruiting for a paid training and internship program dubbed “The Kenya Youth Empowerment Project (KYEP)”

The KYEP Program will aim at improving employability of the youth who participate in the program by placing them for workplace experience with formal or informal private sector employers.

“This program targets vulnerable youth who do not have other opportunities available to them (presently or in the near future), such as opportunities to advance their studies and/or opportunities for long or short-term employment,” reads the job description from their website.

However, this does not guarantee employment at the end of the internship.

Applications are accepted from all regions in the country but candidates are asked to note that training and placement will either be in Nairobi, Mombasa or Kisumu.

Candidates who do not reside in either of the counties are advised to seek their own accommodation and cater for costs during the entire 8 month period

The selected interns will receive a small stipend as a contribution towards their transport costs and meals and this will also be a chance to acquire workplace experience.

Applicants will be selected through automated random selection. The selected candidates then undergo two weeks of non residential

Life Skills training at the start of the program. A competitive selection process for internship opportunities is then conducted by employers through interviews for the successful candidates.

This interview period is about one month in length and may continue as youth participate in the subsequent training sessions.

It is important to note that youth who are not selected by employers by the end of the training period, do not proceed for work place internship.

This is a program organized into internship cycles that last up to eight months, although actual project activities take six months (2 months training and 4 months internship).

To be eligible, applicants must be between 15 and 29 years of age; have a minimum qualification of KCPE; not be currently in school/college and must have been out of school for at least one year.

Besides not currently working, candidates must also not be expecting to join college/university within a year from now; be Kenyan and not have been selected in previous KYEP cycles.

As the internship is eight months in length and full attendance is required throughout, youth are required to ensure that they do not have any commitments before applying.
