“Ecobank Is A Great Employer But….” Former Employee Opens Up On What You Don’t Know

Every organization has a reputation to maintain or improve on. Some of that reputation is public knowledge and some of it, only those who’ve had the chance to work/ intern with the said organizations can only enlighten us on the nitty-gritty’s which happen behind closed doors.

Career Point Kenya recently had a conversation with a former intern at the esteemed organization who was willing to share her experience while interning with Ecobank.

How hard or easy was it for you to get an internship opportunity with Ecobank?
I took a chance and applied for the opportunity and luckily I was taken in.

Did you make an online application or mail your submission?
I did none of that. I delivered the papers myself to the company.

Was there an excruciating interview process for you in order to be accepted by the bank?
Luckily, there was no interview for the internship.

Tell us, what were your roles in this department?
I was responsible for reviewing of account openings forms, ensuring that the bank complies with Central Bank of Kenya, Identifying international best practices to Working with other departments to ensure compliance with internal policies.

Sounds like much for an internship, was it paid?
Yes it was. They offered us a reasonable stipend

What were your working hours?
Same old, same old 8.00am to 5.00pm

What important skills did you learn from the opportunity that later helped you in your job search?
The opportunity helped me a great deal in making reviews, writing reports, making suggestions and not just any suggestions but suggestions based on facts.

Do you think having interned at Eco-bank gives your CV an edge when you are job searching?
I would like to think so. Ecobank has a lot of credibility especially in the banking industry.

What’s the ONE thing that people DON’T know about Ecobank as an employer?
That the bank is a great employer with massive and good training opportunities.

Tell us, what did you like the most about interning with Eco-bank?
I appreciated the cohesive working environment and the training the bank offered me for 5 months.

What your word of advice to graduates hoping to intern with Ecobank in the near future?
It’s a great opportunity to grow your career so better be committed and take it seriously.

What’s your advice to the top management at the bank?
Take interns seriously and respect them.
