What comes to mind when you here the name Commercial Bank of Africa?

For a bank that was founded in 1962, greatness and established would be the best words.

Career point had the chance to meet with a current employee who holds the position of a Personal Banker in the Sales Department.

He talks of how his experience at the bank has been his best so far among the many banks he has worked at.

How did you get the job at the bank?

A friend working at the bank called me and told me about the position. I dropped my CV personally and fortunately I received an invite for an interview.

What was the interview process like?

It was a tough one since many candidates had been shortlisted for the position. I had to prove my worth to a panel of three managers who asked what I would do to bring change to the bank and what strategy I would use to implement that.

Having worked there what kind of organization would you say CBA is?

It is a warm organisation full of opportunities for the achievers and hardworking people. You can really grow at CBA. It also treats and pays its employees very well. It is an organisation where you feel that you belong.

That said, how would you describe CBA’s working environment?

It is very conducive and the best for production and performance. With a comfortable environment and professional employees one cannot place to work. All employees are professional and you would not tell from a boss to the juniors.

This is a well-established bank. Does it offer training to its employees to ensure that they have a competitive edge in the market?

Yes it does. As an employee you undergo lots of training to equip you with enough knowledge thus you can climb the ladder without any hardships and be up to the task. This has especially helped me get the hands on experience required to better my knowledge and skills to perform.

Why would you recommend someone to work at the bank?

This is because of all the banks I have worked in, CBA qualifies to be the best for personal and career growth.

What’s the salary range for this position?

Ksh.40, 000 to 45, 000 per month

Some companies allow for any dress code provided you perform. Is CBA one of them?

No it isn’t. The dress code is strictly formal and employees are only allowed to dress casually on Friday and weekends.

What are the most challenging parts of your job?

So far it has been dealing with unsatisfied customers whose issues have taken a while to be resolved.

Over the time you have been at CBA what helps you perform well?

That would definitely be the great support by the seniors and work mates who offer encouragement and support when you are down.

What don’t you like about CBA?

Having to work on weekends (Nobody loves working on weekends.)

What do you like the most about CBA?

It is the opportunity for growth that is purely based on performance. Bias and discrimination do not count.

What does your day as a Personal Banker entail?

My day requires me to acquire new customers, handle existing customers who have problems and forward clients to the relevant personnel to handle their queries.

Do you have any advice to the senior management of the company?

I would greatly commend them and tell them to keep up with the good work.

What advice would you give to someone interested in working for the bank?

I would advise them to take a step and go for it. Get your A-game on because there are so many opportunities at CBA.
