Funny Confessions: 5 Amusing Ways Kenyans Overcome Interview Anxiety

We all have all had that one interview that we were dreading to go to. We always boast about how courageous and funny we are but when we reach meet a group of people, the become, a nervous wreck.

Have you ever been in a situation you were so nervous such that you felt the sound coming out of your mouth as not being the usual one?

Some even go to an extent of squeezing the bottom or crossing fingers to feel relaxed.

To stop nerves getting the better of you, here are some tips and exercises to help.

1. Have the dress rehearsal
This was one sure way to make sure that I planned myself ahead for the day and was more at ease.

I went in-front of the mirror and started talking to myself. I would reherse and start addressing an imaginary panel of interviewers. It really worked because I was less nervous when I had the interview, confesses Brenda Kiarie who is now a research assistant based in Kusumu

2. Have a good laugh
As the saying suggests, laughter is the best medicine, it can help in reducing the level of stress hormones and anxiety.

Watch a funny movie with your favorite comedian. Just do anything funny by sharing a laugh with your friends.

3. Listening to music

I listened to my favourite hip hop music and in a kind of way made me feel very relaxed. Some motivational music will go a long way in boosting your confidence, says Anne Kimutai an Office Administrator in Kitale

4. Keeping your fingers crossed

One thing I did while waiting for my interview, because it is a sign of wishing for good luck and God’s protection.

I incorporated it by reciting my whole nursery alphabet out loud in the washroom of course. you’ll sound more confident and have more authority. Of course, you should do this before the interview – not in front of the panel.

5. Squeezing your behind

Simply squeeze your behind or your thigh muscles. It’s almost physically impossible to have shaky hands if your behind or your thigh muscles are clenched. This technique will help you feel and appear more confident but do it in style,” says Mary Ayuma.
