Shocking! 40% of CVs Submitted To Employers are Fake. Research Claims
In a scramble to secure a place in the cooperate world, CV liars have managed to deceive prospective employers.
An article on the Daily Nation reports that Kenyan employers have been duped into employing job candidates thinking they are fully qualified.
But the paper further reports that this may soon be a thing of the past, thanks to Spectrum Network International, a risk management and consultancy firm that has developed an employee vetting card to help employers recruit the right candidates.
According to the firm’s Managing Director Samjim Mwanyasi, prospective employees are increasingly engaging in information falsification and document forgery in hot pursuit of limited employment opportunities.
He further argues that “this situation has huge ramifications on employment recruitment procedures and corporate losses.”
A shocking revelation that was he claimed that “from our 10 years’ experience in employee vetting, I can confidently say that 40% of Curriculum Vitae submitted by employers are falsified.”
As a job seeker, to what extent can you go just to earn a slot in the recruitment process?
“This information is just too shocking to believe but we cannot ignore it,” says Martin Musembi, an Agricultural Assistant at a Leading Research Institution Based in Machakos.
“Most job candidates lie about their work experience. Almost all of the jobs that are available to us all require a minimum of 5 plus years experience,” he argues.
“Try putting yourself into the shoes of a candidate who is qualified but the work experience seems to be letting him down.
What will prevent him from altering his credentials just to be considered in the job?” he poses.
He further adds that “They even go as far as lying about holding major posts within the company as well as assuming some non-existent responsibilities.
It is not the right way but that is as far as where unemployment in the country is to fully blame for this.”
“Corruption has gone a long way in the country as one can go up to the extent of falsifying a certificate of good conduct,” says Verah Ayugi, a Business Consultant at a Real Estate Company Operating in Mombasa.
“Take for instance of an individual who has been convicted of committing a serious crime, he would not be stupid enough to mention it in the interview,” she argues.
“I agree with the claim because anything indicated in a CV can be a whole fabricated lie,” she opines.
She also asks that “If people lie about their referees resulting in fake recommendation letters and manage to get away with it, what else are they not capable of?”
“The fake letters recommending candidates can provide the name and phone number of a fictitious supervisor at a supposedly large company,” explains Aron Mwaniki, a Computer Science Graduate at a Public University.
“I was shocked when one of my friends called and asked me if he could include me as his referee,” he recalls.
“My main puzzle is how will this so called company come up with a way of identifying frauds in the corporate world?” he asks.
“However, this is a good approach by this company and we hope that these culprits who are giving us job seekers a bad name are brought to book,” he concludes.
As a job seeker, have you ever cheated your way into getting the job you have?
