What Graduate Trainees Stand To Gain From Samsung Engineering Academy
Engineering graduates have been going through a rough patch lately as far as seeking job opportunities are concerned.
This is because the Engineering Board of Kenya, EGK recently rejected their courses arguing that they were undertaken in none accredited institutions.
This is probably why one of the reasons why the leading electronics firm Samsung electronics, launched an engineering academy aimed at addressing the critical technical and engineering skills shortage in country.

Who Is Eligible To Attend The Academy?
The students who benefit from the training are from local technical training colleges such as the Multimedia University College, Kabete Technical Training Institute, PC Kinyanjui Technical Training Institute and the Nairobi Technical Training Institute.
Those who will be selected through a year program which comprises of basic, intermediate and advanced engineering skills which are aligned to their curriculum at their corresponding technical school.
According to Samsung’s East and Central Africa, Corporate Marketing Manager, Ms Betty Radier, “This initiative will strive to transform communities through education and skills development and in return, open up skilled, well-paying job opportunities for the graduates,”
Radier says that the programme will also support government’s efforts in up scaling technical training in the country.
What Are The Students Likely To Gain From The Training?
The Samsung electronics engineering academy provides vocational training for grade 10-12 students who will gain skills as well as well paying job opportunities.
Students who graduate from the Academy will have a chance to compete for an internship opportunity at one of Samsung’s service centers where they will put the skills learned at the Academy to practical use for Samsung customers.
Also trainees graduating from the academy will be comprehensively trained to repair and service a broad range of digital consumer electronic appliances such as LCD TV’s, Smartphones, refrigerators, air conditioners and laptops among other appliances.
At the same time, the academy will give the students jobs and a chance to learn about entrepreneurship to counter for the country’s unemployment rate which stands at 40%.
However, those with outstanding performances will stand a good chance of participating in a year-long learnership opportunity.
This will be held at the company’s headquarters in South Korea as part of the 100 African young leaders program.
Samsung Electronics Engineering Academy that is currently operating in South Africa, Kenya and Nigeria are part of the company’s broader goal to develop 10,000 electronics engineers’ centers across the continent by 2015.
