Fake Degrees! List of Five Universities Approved For Pharmacy Courses
By Jane Okoth,
It seems that Kenyans will ever be victims of unscrupulous businessmen who are out to take advantage of them.
This is because of students who undertook various courses in their respective colleges and institutions only to find out that they were not approved.
The Standard revealed that, “Hundreds of students who trained as pharmacists or pharmaceutical technologists are stranded after they failed to secure official registration to practice from the pharmacy and poisons board PPB.
The board made a decision not to endorse their applications since it had not approved the institutions that trained the students.
The board Registrar Kipkerich Koskei cautioned parents and students to ensure that they train in improved institutions or else they will be wasting their time and money.
In an effort to solve the matter, the board has published a fresh list of educational institutions that have been approved to offer degree and diploma courses in pharmacy.
These include the University of Nairobi, Mount Kenya University, Kenyatta University, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology and Kenya Methodist University.
What considerations should students take when undertaking a course in any learning institution?
“They need to do a thorough research of any institutions of higher learning regardless of the courses they are willing to undertake,” says Cyrus Oketch, a Nurse at a private medical institution.
“Doing the research will inform you if the institutions are credible and that you will not be wasting your time and money,” he suggests.
“Remember that when the deal is too good, think twice. You will be required to pay a less amount to these unscrupulous colleges and end up killing your career,” he concludes.
“This is one unfortunate incident that proves that the college or university where you pursue your education matters,” says Aggrey Owino, who is a Medical Student at a Technical Training Institute in the country.
“I agree that there exists a group of fishy individuals who are out to make money out of Kenyans but the main issue is how the government is addressing this issue,” he says.
He argues that, “Not all of us have the same resources to study in the accredited institutions which were published in the list.”
In his own words, he says that, “the government should approve other institutions and makes it affordable for students who cannot afford to the universities mentioned to pursue their dreams.”
“I agree too because we are not only killing the dreams of Kenyans but the he youth,” says Sheila Mweu, an Administrative Officer at a local N.G.O in the country.
“The decision by the pharmacist’s board seems to be ill timed. What did they have to wait till they finish school to raise the complaints?” she asks.
“I am sure that they were aware about the incredible institutions which existed but still chose to remain mum,” she opines.
She concludes by saying that is, “this is a wakeup call to all the boards serving in the country to protect young Kenyans and their career ambitions.”
Are you a victim of such unscrupulous institutions?
