4 Ways You Could Easily Lose Your Job After ‘End of Year Party’
By Jane Okoth,
As 2015 approaches, companies will never miss the chance to throw out an office party just to wind up and welcome the New Year.
However, you need to know that you can have a good time at the party and advance your career or you can misbehave and even lose your job.
So which is the best way to handle the party so as not to put your job in jeopardy?
Speaking to Adrian Kariuki, a Communications Officer at Corporate Staffing Services, he warns that such events must be handled with caution.
“For starters excessive drinking is strictly prohibited in the event,” he says.
“Just know your limit when taking alcohol. Make your decision about what to drink and how much to drink before you are faced with the choices at the event,” he advises.
“Secondly, careless and silly talk has to be avoided at all times,” he states.
He however adds that, “It is understandable that the party gives you a more relaxed atmosphere to talk freely.”
“But just because you are in an office party does not mean you have the chance to talk about your personal life and attacking other people’s characters,” he argues.
Thirdly Mr Kariuki strongly affirms that it is important to appreciate the positions of your other colleagues at work as well as your boss.
“Whether in the office party or not, your manager, your boss and even your supervisor will still hold those positions so be careful not to undermine them,” he explains.
“I had a former colleague who went as far making wild accusations at his supervisor,” he narrates.
“Don’t forget that the party will come to an end and when you are ready for work next year, chances are that your survival will not be promising,” he cautions.
Also he adds that people need to avoid inappropriate or any suggestive behaviors.
“For instance, there is nothing wrong with dancing but you don’t need to showcase all of your moves,” he states.
Bottom line, Mr Kariuki says that the important thing is to make sure you have a good time without overstepping any boundaries or making people uncomfortable.
So when attending that party, don’t ever forget to behave!
