If you have been applying for jobs for over six months now, you know that employers value work experience when considering the candidates they want to hire for the various positions.

The good news is that not all is lost. If you are a fresh degree or diploma holder, worry not because your job is just around the corner. Why not try applying for jobs that don’t need experience instead?

According to Ms. Muthoni Ndegwa, a Recruitment Manager at Corporate Staffing Services the mistake that most graduates in Kenya is focusing on jobs that they do not qualify for.

Two things are likely to happen in this scenario. One, you will not hear from the recruiter since it’s clear that you are not the candidate they are looking for and two, you will only end up getting depressed.

Jobs That Don’t Need Experience For Fresh Graduates

1. Flight attendant/ cabin crew

Are you looking for well-paying jobs that don’t need experience in Kenya? If you love travelling, why not turn that hobby into a job.

Every major airline including our very own Kenya Airways conducts recruitment for cabin crews once in a while.

The good thing about this job is that you only need a KCSE certificate, be at least 21 years of age and have the physical looks required for cabin crew professionals.

On average flight attendants earn around $1500 per month which is really awesome considering that no experience is needed.

2. Graduate Trainee

Talking of high paying jobs that don’t need experience – if you are a fresh graduate and looking to get into management, apply for graduate trainee positions whenever they are advertised.

Multinational companies like Delloite, PwC, Unilever, BAT, Davis & Shirtliff, Total, Oracle, Safaricom and the likes are always hiring graduate trainees.

These programmes are meant to introduce fresh graduates to the world of work without experience. Some companies pay graduate trainees as high as Sh.80,000 to as low as Sh.40,000. Not bad, right?

All you need to do is be on the lookout for when they roll out the programmes. The companies tend to hire graduate trainees between January to June every year.

3. Bank Clerks/tellers

The banking industry is by far the fastest growing and the most popular career for most fresh graduates. A job as a bank clerk is also the best foundation when launching your banking career.

Banks always hire clerks or tellers and mostly they go for fresh graduates. The payment is dependent of the bank and how big it is. Some banks pay tellers as high as Sh.70,000 in a month.

4. Some Government Jobs That don’t Need Experience

Working in the government or in a parastatal is one of the most promising careers that fresh graduates seek. Be it flexible working hours, numerous benefits and job security a job in the government is surely a dream come true.

Some government parastatals like KRA, Kenya Power, KenGen and the likes have a reputation of offering jobs to fresh graduates.

Fresh graduates in these companies earn as high as Sh.80,000 in a month. Not bad for someone without experience, right?

5. Politics

Thanks to devolution a lot for elective positions have opened up for women and the youths. While to vie for political positions requires at least a degree, you don’t need experience to venture into it.

And we all know that our honorable politicians don’t earn peanuts.

If Igembe South MP John Paul will now go down in history as the youngest Member of Parliament, I don’t see what’s stopping you from achieving this. If politics is really your thing.

6. Real Estate agent

The real estate is the fastest and highest paying job in Kenya that requires no experience. Real estate agents are so many now and that means that business is booming.

You would be surprised to find out that this is the career you will end up loving.

7. Medical practitioners

Not all of us are medics but for those medical graduates or those still in school, it is a relief to know that this is one of the jobs that don’t require experience.

The reason is that medical students start their internships early which are paid and can go on to get a job in the medical industry.

8. Small Business Owner

If employment is not your thing, you can choose to go into business.

Just save up some money and start a business of your own. In the mean time you will be creating jobs for other graduates.

Some businesses can be started with as low as 50 shillings to as high as millions.

Whatever your budget is, let that not be a hindrance to being a business owner. Companies like Bonfire Adventures were started with as allow as Sh.20,000.
