Career Advice Tips
By Jane Okoth
Lets picture this. You are going about your normal activities, surfing on the internet when you come across a job advertised in your company’s website. The scary thing is that the job sounds exactly like yours. What could be ringing in your mind now?
This is what happened to one Ruth Mwende*, an Accountant at a Manufacturing firm in Nairobi.
“I have been working in my company for the past 2 years. I have learnt a lot to the point that I got promoted. Things have been going on well as I have the best relationship with my boss.
Two days ago, I was scrolling through the company’s website when I was startled by one shocking discovery. I saw my current position being advertised online.
The Advertised Job Looks Exactly Like Mine
I have since been trying to console myself since but the job title matches exactly the same as mine, the working hours as well as the salary. I am presuming that by the end of the month I will be fired. The strange thing is that no one has actually discussed it with me.
I feel really betrayed by the management because the least they could have done was to inform me of the decision. Is this a cause of alarm and should I just resign or worse still confront my boss about it?”
What advice would you give Ruth?
