Help! My Boss Wants To Fire Me Because I Have a Side Hustle

Side hustles have become a common thing nowadays. With the economy stretching many of us to the limit, most people who are employed always find a way of supplementing their income with a side hustle. Whether it’s selling commodities online or running another business on the side, side hustles have become a necessity.

What happens when your only way of ensuring you live a decent life, becomes your source of sorrow?What happens when the person you trusted most betrays you in the most unexpected way?

Here is Abel’s story

“I have been working at my job for close to four years now. Though it’s what I love doing, the salary is not so good. Most of the time, I have had to rely on the generosity of my family and friends.

I have for years negotiated for a salary increase which never comes. I have tried to find other jobs, but nothing is forthcoming.

A friend of mine knew my struggles and that’s when he told me of a position for an online writer, which was paying a little bit higher than what I was currently earning. I am a digital marketer myself so the new job turned out to be so flexible. It was something I could still do when I was done with my work in the office.

I was not ready to quit my job and so I took up the role. Before long I was earning from it. Life became a bit easier and I even had something to save, something I had not done in a long time. I got to love and enjoy my job even more now. that I had two sources of income The little salary was no longer an issue until things went haywire.

My boss had got wind of the fact that I had another job on the side and this was not his cup of tea. He would summon me to his office and give me an ultimatum. It was either I quit my online job or he would end up firing me instead.

I don’t know what to do. I don’t want to quit my online job and at the same time, I don’t want to lose my official job. I have just started with online working and I don’t know if it will last if I end up quitting.

I love my job above anything else but I also want to live a comfortable life that I am not sure whether this online job alone will give me.
What should I do?”
