Revealed! 10 Starting Salaries of Engineers in Kenya!!

I received an email from a reader last week, asking me to share how much Engineers in Kenya earn. The issues of salary is a very key factor when it comes to choosing a course to study, and when looking for jobs , in the field of engineering. You will also be interested to know if what you are earning as an engineer is the same as what other engineers are earning in other companies.

Engineers are highly valued in Kenya, because of the technicality of their work. Not to mention that they go through 5 years of Academic Education in a majority of the Institutions in Kenya.

Many civil servants in Kenya have been known to go on strike over salary issues , but engineer public servants seem to be content with their share.

In this article, you will learn that Engineering jobs and roles vary and companies vary too, which contributes to starting salaries of engineers. Let’s look further into how much engineers cash in every month in Kenya…

What are the Starting Salaries of Engineers in Kenya?

1.Graduate Engineers

The Ministry of Industry and Trade is home to many engineers, among them, being Graduate Engineers. According to glassdoor.com, Graduate Engineers working in the Ministry of Industry and Trade earn about 43-46K.

On the other hand, the same Graduate Engineers, who work at Orange Kenya, earn 39-43K, which is slightly different from the salary offered by the Ministry.

2. Product Development Engineers.

As I mentioned earlier, companies’ salaries vary depending on a variety of factors. A good example that shows this difference is the salary of a Product Development Engineer working at General Motors VS one working at Safaricom. General Motors pays their engineers 53-57K, whereas Safaricom pays the same types of Engineers 143-155K.

The difference between the starting salaries of engineers, in this case is outrageous, but again, Safaricom’s demands might be higher than those at General Motors.

3. Trainee Engineer Interns

As an Engineering Intern at Bata Kenya, you will earn 14-16K per month, which is considerably fair.

4. Customer Support Engineers

Kenya Data Networks work with Customer Support Engineers, whose take away home is around 33-37K every month. This amount lies within the same range as what customer service agents earn.

5. Drilling Engineer

Kengen is one of the biggest companies whose majority work force is comprised of Engineers. A drilling Engineer at Kengen makes about 161-173K per month.

6. Field Engineer (monthly contractor)

A field engineer at Samsung Kenya is paid 63-67K, on contract for every month.

7. Optimization Engineer

An optimization engineer is an ICT/IT expert.  Orange Kenya pays their Optimization Engineers a salary of 108-117K.

8. Engineers

A fully fledged engineer earns the following amounts, in the following companies:

  • Engineer at Nokia- 148-160K
  • Engineer at NCR- 272-294K
  • Engineer at Wananchi Group – 144-156K

9. Planning Engineer

At Safaricom, a Planning Engineer’s starting salary is 174-188K.

10. Radio Planning Engineer

A radio planning engineer earns 126-136K every month. (Notably, Safaricom pays their engineers a very good package.)
