Legal Assistant reports to Senior Legal Officer. The Legal Assistant will perform or carry out day to day activities of court matters (cases) in office and in courts registries as it may be assigned from time to time.

Responsibilities for the Legal Assistant Job

  • Assist the Senior Legal Officer and Legal Officer – (Litigation) in
    preparation of legal documents including filling matters in court and taking hearing dates.
  • Attends court on behalf of Senior Legal Officer to collect court documents e.g. orders, notices, summons etc.
  • Assists the Senior Legal Officer in drafting of and proof reading court documentation e.g. applications, notices and other relevant correspondence.
  • Prepares briefs and prepares Corporation witnesses in readiness for hearings of court matters.
  • Prepares correspondence to Corporation’s clients/loanees/defendants on court matters for and on behalf of the Senior Legal Officer.
  • Carries out conveyancing duties as assigned including registration of legal documents, charges, collecting stamped documents from lands and County Government registries for further action by Legal Officers.
  • Issues relevant legal notices to defaulters and prepares documents for registration of charged properties as directed.
  • Research and stores literature on case files and briefs Legal Officers on relevant laws and statutes.
  • Maintains and updates legal cases and manages records in the Legal Unit for ease of retrieval of case files.
  • Prepares draft legal documents related to Assignment, Agreement, MOU; Charges, Discharges and Transfers under direction from senior legal officers.

Qualifications for the Legal Assistant Job

Applicants must have:

  • At least K.C.S.E. grade C or equivalent qualification.
  • Diploma in Legal Studies or equivalent professional qualification with at least (3) years experience in a law firm/department.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in the use of computer applications.
  • The position is on Permanent and Pensionable terms and the successful candidate will be subject to performance contracting.
