The job search process can make you feel powerless because after applying for a job you just have to wait and see. During this time, instead of stressing about whether you will get a job or not you can focus on activities that improve your life and relieve the anxiety and stress of the job search.

1. Start a Side Gig

Instead of spending all your time focused on the job application you sent but haven’t heard back from the recruiter yet, you can come up with a side gig that will act as a source of income to ensure you don’t go broke during your job search.

This can be anything you are good at from catering, writing, printing or any other form of generating income. It doesn’t necessarily have to be something that involves skilled work you can even offer a service. Some of it doesn’t even require capital.

If you feel you do not need the extra income you can start a side gig just so that you can improve your CV by gaining experience and skills that will make you more employable.

2. Give Back to the Community

This is a great way to pass time as you wait to hear back from potential employers. You can decide to join a volunteer group and go helping the less fortunate in your community.

Because of your job search you probably have not had time to connect with some of your friends or even relatives. This is the time to do it because once you get a job it might be difficult.

You can take a weekend off to go visit some of your relatives or friends whom you have lost touch with. It doesn’t have to be every weekend but once in a while because after all, no man is an island and you will need your relatives and friends some time.
