Does your job satisfy you? Is it fulfilling in any way? Or does it leave you drained?

Sometimes you may end up accepting a job because of the money, whcich is what happens to most job seekers.

However, months or a few years down the line, you find that yoy no longer enjoy the job and that you would like to pursue a different career.

A career takes years to develop and ending up in the wrong one is not only sould draining but it also means that you will never get to enjoy waking up everyday to go to work.

A career should be something you lobve doing and therefore, here are valid reasons why you shoud consider leaving your current sould draining career for a better one.

1. Your career is no longer exciting or challenging enough

We all have a problem getting up for work some mornings. However, if you find that you won’t want to wake up for work every morning and there is nothing that interests you with the work you are doing then you are obviously bored.

Now before you go and quit your job, it is important that you figure out what is causing this feeling. Sometimes it can be the traffic you have to deal with everyday.

You need to ask yourself if the cause is something fixable. Sometimes it turns out to be the job itself. Maybe it’s not as challenging as it used to be or it’s not what you expected.

This is where you need to make a decision of whether the job is worth it or if you will be better off elsewhere.

For some all it takes is moving to a new organisation whereas for others it takes a complete career change where they switch to different professions.

2. There is no growth in your position

If you have been in the same position for the past 5 years and in the same organisation without any sign of career growth or advancement then it might be time to consider a change.

Even if you work in a big organisation where promotions don’t come easy, five years down the line you should see some sort of advancement.

Now this can be due to a few things. First you could be the one with the problem. Maybe you have reached a point where you are not being different or productive hence the lack of a promotion.

It could also be that you have reached the peak of that particular job. For example if you are the senior accountant and there is no higher position in the organisation.

For some this is enough, but if it isn’t you can try looking for a career in a different field or switch to an environment that is more challenging.

3. You always think that other people around you are doing better than you

Jealousy is not a good feeling it is frowned upon. But if you find you are always jealous about your friend’s or family member’s job then it could be a sign.

Now, I do not mean you are jealous because of the salary or benefits. I mean if you are jealous of the work they do.

I had a friend who was extremely jealous of her cousin’s job. Mind you she was getting better pay but she didn’t love what she did. Her cousin was a chef and she was a PR officer.

Now after years of grumbling she finally decided to quit her job and go into catering.

Now she complains about all the muscle aches but says she doesn’t want to change a thing.

Moral of the story, if you find you are constantly jealous of people in a particular profession then that could be where your passion lies.

Before you make the move, consider speaking to career coach would be a good idea. You dont want to chnage from a career you hate and end up in a similar one. A career coach after evaluation will be in a position pin point what career path is suitable for you.

Now, for most people changing your career can be scary. We all get used to the comfort and don’t want to deal with the unknown. However, if you are brave enough to try and you do feel the need for change. Go for it. Just be sure it is what you want and you won’t be regretting your decision a year down the line.
