5 Ways To Develop A Winning Relationship With Your Boss

Your boss might be a very serious and sober man  whose demeanor  is often intimidating, with the way he walks into the office, or the way he gives directions, or his overall strict personality at work.

But did you know that your boss is just as human as you are? Did you know that he has fears and insecurities just like you do?

At the start and end of a day, success is on your boss’ mind, but so is a human being. He, like any other person needs real employees with real feelings and opinions.

1. Treat Your Boss Like Your Number 1 Customer And Fan

Take time to learn your boss. Find out what makes him tick and what turns him off at the office. Does he like it when employees listen to music as they work?

Is he lenient when people arrive late to work?  What are his goals for the company? What does he require of you on a daily basis?

All these are critical questions you need to sit down and answer after observing your boss for a while. The moment you are on the same page with your boss about his expectations, a guaranteed friendship and bond will form.

Make your boss’ priorities yours, then see the magic happen!

2. Plan To Meet Him / Her One-On-One

Your boss is obviously a very busy man who has a lot on his mind, from striking business deals, to travelling for meetings, ensuring everything is running smoothly etc.

It is upon you as an employee to take the initiative to meet him for a one-on-one meeting occasionally, say twice a month.

With all the things going on in his life, create an avenue to update him on your progress in your job, achievements, challenges and your overall well-being so far in the job.

This allows your boss to catch up with the latest from your end, it also enables him to communicate his current goals and direction for the company and it creates an employer-employee bond.

It reminds him of your loyalty towards the company and your importance as an asset to him.

3. Be Vocal In Meetings

Yes, even you who is an introvert. Being vocal and giving your opinions during meetings, shows that you are engaged and your boss becomes aware of your presence and contribution towards the company.

If you delay speaking up, it becomes harder to break into the discussion.

Simply become a regular contributor in your boss’ meetings, it makes your boss trust you and have confidence in you, thus creating chemistry and friendship.

4. Always Give Your Best

You are obviously in that company to work, therefore, put your best foot forward in your role. Meet your targets, do more than is expected and be a major contributor to the company’s overall success.

Your boss will definitely warm up towards you  once they see how dedicated and hard working you are in your job. This is how promotions come along too therefore, give  your best always.

5. Be Low Maintenance

The last thing a boss wants is to constantly manage you because of failing to meet the company’s expectations.

In order to become buddies with your boss, ensure that you manage yourself at work and that you are self-driven.

Let your self-motivation  guide you to accomplishing your targets without having to be managed.

Proactively solve problems before your boss asks you to. This way, your boss will consider you responsible and proactive which creates a beautiful friendship between you two. Maturity is attractive.

Becoming best buds with your boss takes some time, but once you learn the do’s and don’ts and practise being the best version of you, you and your boss will laugh be dancing to the same tune sooner than later.
