Microbiologist Job at Kenya Wine Agencies

Perform microbiology tests on all finished products, line samples, special samples and raw materials as per established sampling plans and provide an analysis report.

Microbiologist Job Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the Quality Specialist, define and update the specific quality procedures, instructions and tools which are directly related to microbiology.
  • Perform microbiological tests on equipment and environment samples to ensure compliance to the legal specifications.
  • Sample and conduct microbiological tests of factory water and chlorination as necessary and prepare a report including remedial actions where necessary.
  • Prepare analysis reports outlining any abnormalities such as quality deviations, recommend corrective actions and on approval by the QSHE Manager oversee the implementation of the corrective action.
  • Responsible for the general maintenance and management of the Microbiology Lab including the lab equipment.
  • Responsible for the stock control and purchase requisition for consumables in microbiology lab.
  • Participate in HACCP studies to provide assistances related to microbiology and food safety.
  • Compile microbiology reports for as required.
  • Lead the resolution of all microbiology issues or challenges encountered in the organisation.

Requirements for the Microbiologist Job

  • A diploma in Food Science and Technology/Biochemistry/Microbiology.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in in a relevant filed will be an added advantage.
  • At least three (3) years’ experience as a technician or in product development, manufacturing or quality control environment with exposure in microbiological tests.
  • Practical experience in use of MS packages and ERP systems.

Competencies/Attributes

  • A good understanding of microbiology analysis.
  • Knowledge of microbiology lab instrumentation and chemicals.
  • Experience in participating in the delivery of projects within a functional team.
  • In depth knowledge of the production process would be preferred.
  • Good attention to detail/eye for detail.
  • High level of integrity.

Relationships and working contacts

  • Internal – QSHE team, production staff, winery team and other staff.
  • External – Suppliers – Customers, suppliers.

Work Environment

  • This role is based in the in the laboratory.
