Meet Edith Kimani Who Started As Kenya’s Youngest News Anchor

We live in an age and time when inspiration is all around us and few are keen enough to notice it. If you know the Media Industry in Kenya you are aware that it’s very hard to get a slot as a news anchor TV.

Many aspiring journalists only end up as reporters because of the cut throat competition. As many of you notice, only the very fair and beautiful aspiring journalists end up on TV, and even still, the opportunities are not many.

But at only 19 years of age, Edith Kimani defied odds and rose above all the limitations that could have stopped her from winning and being the youngest face of KTN.

Below are 6 quick facts about Edith that you didn’t know

1. She became Kenya’s Youngest Journalist at 19

KTN Television opened up an opportunity for aspiring journalists to compete in a show dubbed ‘The Presenter’ for a chance of landing a news anchoring job in the TV Station.  Edith straight out of High School at the time, grabbed the opportunity and joined the competition.

After a series of many interviews, tasks and equally talented competitors, Edith emerged the winner at the age of 19, making her the youngest face of TV in 2009.

2. She grew up in Kinoo

The beauty that is Edith Kimani to many might seem like she grew up with a silver spoon, but like most of us, she was raised in an average middle class community, she also attended normal schools until she worked her way up to stardom and success.

3. She wanted to be an Actress

Edith started acting when she was a very young girl all the way to high school. In primary school her and her drama team won the National Drama festivals. When she joined high school at State House Girls, the drama club at the time was close to being dead and Edith revived it and for the first time in the History of State House girls, they won the Nationals.

4. She got a scholarship

It was after the success of their drama team that an opportunity arose for her and she got a scholarship to join Hillcrest. She moved from the 8-4-4 system to an IGCSE system which was all so new to her. “ I was so excited to wear trousers to school,”she says.

5. Edith is a lady full of life

She believes in making the best and the most out of life. She loves travelling and has traveled to Berlin among other countries, and in these experiences she says that life is meant to be enjoyed. She takes on challenges as they come her way and is not afraid of making mistakes. It’s in these mistakes that she’s able to learn and become a better person.

6. She now works for DW TV

At the beginning of this year, Edith, who had been working at KTN for the last 6 years, landed a deal and opportunity to work for DW News. She is the East African correspondent for DW TV which is a very big opportunity for her which has seen her grow in her career which means bigger numbers in the Bank.

Her advice to anyone who looks up to her is to work hard, to be determined and to go for your dreams. All of  theme are achievable, she says.
