Introducing 14 Proven Ways Of Making Money Online In Kenya

By Lilian Wamaitha
If you have landed on this page, it means that you have finally decided to get off the couch and look for ways to earn a living even if it means never leaving the comfort of your home.
There are so many ways to make money and get rich in Kenya that don’t necessarily involve a 9-5 job. I know of several guys who have never been employed but have made it big just by working online.

Here are ways you can also make money online in Kenya.

1. Freelancing
This is the most popular means of making money online in Kenya. I myself used to be a freelancer when I was in university.
Its good money and though it demands a bit of your time, it is the easiest investment you can make with zero capital.
The good thing about freelancing is that you don’t have to answer to any employer and you get to choose the jobs that you are comfortable working on.
The most popular freelancing jobs include writing (article, academic or ghostwriting) and transcribing.

2. Domain Buying and selling
This is simply known as domain flipping and it is the art of buying and selling existing domains at a profit.
A domain is simply the URL of a website like www.careerpointkenya.co.ke.
This is a highly lucrative business idea in Kenya that you should probably think about.
The way it works is, you buy domain names, keep them in the hope that someone will always need them.
For website creators, sometimes instead of creating a new website, you can always buy an existing one and you don’t have to go through all the hoops of mastering SEO to get your website ranking on Google.
For instance, you can start by creating a website stemming from what most people are searching, for example, you can create a domain like www.businessideasinkenya.com since most people are looking for businesses to start and then sell it later on.
3. Kindle publishing
This is another means of making money online in Kenya that involves selling books on Amazon. The Kindle Direct Publishing is a unit run by Amazon.
If you are a writer, you can write your own book and sell millions of copies on Amazon.
Amazon is by far one of the biggest e-commerce markets in the world and posting here guarantees that you will reach millions of people across the world.
This can become some sort of your side hustle. You are not charged to publish your book on The Kindle Direct Publishing and you are at liberty to post as many books as you want.
The only disadvantage is that once you publish a book on Amazon, you are not allowed to publish it elsewhere for a period of 90 days.
4. Niche websites
This is another great way of making money online. It simply entails creating a niche website and by niche I mean a website focusing on one specific idea.
For instance, like I had mentioned a website like business ideas in Kenya is a niche website.
Focus on generating enough traffic and then link your website to Google AdSense or focus on affiliate marketing and start making money.
A good website with good traffic can make you over $2,000 in a month.
5. Drop shipping
This is one of the ways of making money that Kenyans are yet to embrace.
With drop shipping, you act as an indirect marketer for sites like e-bay. Just choose an item that you can afford to pay for and market it to people here.
Let’s say, you have seen a TV that is going for $80 on e-bay, market it well and get a client who can pay $140 for it, sell it and you will have made a profit of $60.
The good thing about this is that you don’t need a lot of capital or to rent out a stall but the downside is that you can experience shipping delays or stock shortages since you are not the supplier and have no control over how the inventory is done.
6. Vlogging
This is another quick way of making money and all you need are those awesome video creating skills of yours.
Guys are reaping fortunes just by creating and uploading videos on YouTube.
Just create a video channel and monetize it, create good content that people can watch and wait for money to start streaming in.
Basically, YouTube pays you through the ads that run on your channel.
7. Sell EBooks on Facebook
If you are an active Facebook user but have never thought that you can actually make money through this platform, think twice.
Guys with a talent for writing and designing are making good money through Facebook marketing.
The best way to make money online is by joining marketing groups or creating your own and spend a few dollars promoting it to reach the right people.
Create awesome eBooks on various topics of interest like recipes, academics, and the likes and sell them through these pages.
Most guys sell eBooks at 100 bob and it can be a very good investment.
8. Create courses
Are you good at anything and believe that you can be an authority figure in it? It could be cooking, fashion, tutoring among others.
You can turn your talent into money by creating courses and having people enroll at a small fee.
9. Sell photos online
Bloggers, designers, website owners and social media personalities are often looking for pictures to use.
However, they cannot go on taking these pictures themselves and that is where you come in.
Take good HD photos if you have a camera and then join photo selling websites like Shutterstock, stock photo, Photoshelter and the likes and start earning money when people buy your photos.
10. Blogging
Blogging is another great way to earning money online in Kenya.
Just create a blog and write about issues that you are passionate about, generate enough traffic and then start earning money through Google AdSense, creating eBooks and courses and offering consultancy services for a fee.
Bloggers also make money by marketing other people’s products which is what we call affiliate marketing.

11. Selling art items on Etsy
If you are a creative, Etsy is a great website dedicated to art where you can make good money.
The website accepts all forms of art from home décor, jewelry, clothing, art items, gifts, toys and the likes. Just visit the website if interested and get a sense of the items that you can post.
13. Affiliate marketing
Do you know that you can make money through social media?
If you are one of those people who has reached a limit of friend requests they can accept on Facebook or have thousands of followers on Instagram and Twitter, start thinking of ways of turning that into an income.
Through affiliate marketing, companies can market their products and services through you. All you have to do is approach these companies and convince them that you can help them reach so many people all at once through your social media.
14. Bitcoin Trading
This is one of the quickest ways of making money online in Kenya today.
A bitcoin is a form of currency just like our very own Kenyan shilling but its virtual.
It used in online transactions where you can buy and sell goods with Bitcoins.
If you want to go into Bitcoin trading you can either focus on trading or mining it.
Trading is all about buying Bitcoins and selling them at a higher value later one.
Mining is more complex as it involves setting up your computer to solve puzzles and you only get paid when you successfully solve them.
Unlike cash, Bitcoin is harder to steal which explains the reason why its gaining immense value as the years go by.
In conclusion,
As you have seen there are so many ways of making money online that don’t involve you beating traffic every morning to get to work. Some of them don’t even need capital to start. Someone said that the only limit to what you can be is yourself. Don’t limit yourself, take a risk and become financially stable today.
