Interview Preparation Tips To Help You Pass An Interview

1. Research the  Company

As you are preparing for the interview, knowing who you are interviewing with is a great way to ensure you succeed. You need to spend a lot of time conducting research on the company.

You can do this by talking to your contacts if that is how you landed the interview, reading articles written about the organisation, going through their website as well as just conducting a Google search.

By doing this you get to learn a little more about a company which will enable you to figure out what they are looking for and how you fit into it. This will also help you decide how to dress because there are some organisations where employees don’t dress formally and showing up in your suit can be a disadvantage.

2. Research On Possible Questions That You Will Be Asked

During an interview there are obvious questions that you are bound to be asked; this means that you already have an advantage because you know what to expect. Now all you need to do is prepare your answers for these questions.

For example, I guarantee you that every employer will ask you to tell them about yourself. Therefore, you need to be armed with a good answer that will help you stand out from the rest of the candidates.

3. Analyze the Job

An important part of interview preparation is to take the time to analyze the job posting, if you have it. As you review the job description, consider what the company is seeking in a candidate.

Make a list of the skills, knowledge, and professional and personal qualities that are required by the employer and are critical for success in the job.

Body language determines to a large extent whether you get a job or not. Let your actions portray what a positive person who is interested in the job and what the interviewer is saying.

Avoid bad body language search as slouching or fidgeting too much because if the interviewer can see you are really nervous then they might think you lack confidence which will be a disadvantage to you.

5. Work on Your Questions For Them

At the end of every interview the interviewer will always ask if you have any questions for them.  This is something you must prepare for.

Ask questions relating to things like working hours, their expectations for the successful candidate, their vision for the company culture etc. This shows that you are truly interested in the job. You however still need to be careful so that you don’t seem like you did not research the company. In short avoid asking questions with obvious answers that can be found on the website.

6. Plan what to bring

This is one of the biggest challenges to most job seekers. Basically on the day of the interview, you are supposed to have an extra copy of your CV and documents. Don’t just assume that the interview already has your documents which you used to apply.

Always have extra copies of your CV just in case it turns out to be a panel interview. Don’t be in a position where they ask you for some documents and you don’t have them.

7. Practice Interviewing

This is a crucial step for interview preparation,  practice answering interview questions you will probably be asked by the employer.  It will help calm your nerves because you won’t be scrambling for an answer while you’re in the interview hot seat.

Practice interviewing with a friend or family member ahead of time and it will be much easier when you’re actually in a job interview.

Review common job interview question and answers and think about how you will respond so you are prepared to answer.

In summary,

Good preparation will go a long way in easing your nerves and ensuring you do well in your interview.
