8 Harsh Truths You Don’t Want To Hear But Must That Will Make You A Better Person

“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind.”
How often do you find yourself doing things for the sake of impressing other people?
One of the saddest truths about this generation is that most of us waltz through life using filters. We are very good at showing the world that we are okay even when we are depressed.
As a writer, I cope with a lot of heat delivering the truth because I am not a fun of an Instagram kind of life. I do not sugar coat reality but will tell you the honest truth.
My goal is to give you the truth as it is so that you can grow. I am all about smashing goals using the truth so that you may live your life with no regrets.
That said, here are 8 truths that most of us don’t want to hear but must.
1. You only live the life you create for yourself
Your life is yours alone. Others can try to persuade you, but they can’t decide for you. They can walk with you, but not in your shoes.
It is you alone who can decide the kind of life you want to live. Don’t live a lie just because you want to impress someone.
One of the regrets that a majority of people have is not living their lives to their full potential. Ten years down the line, when you look back at the life you have lived; will you be proud that you lived it for yourself or others?
2. Sometimes failure comes before success
Mistakes are unavoidable. You must learn to forgive yourself. It’s not a problem to make them. It’s only a problem if you never learn from them.
If you’re too afraid of failure, you can’t do what needs to be done to be successful when that time comes.
Truth is, just because it’s not happening now, doesn’t mean it will never happen for you.

3. Achievement is momentary
That raise that you have been longing for won’t necessarily make you happy. That job switch won’t change your attitude about being employed.
If you don’t enjoy what you are current doing, then stop and do something else because it’s a long road down that regret path.
Don’t miss out on being happy just because you want to prove to people that you are responsible and not choosy.
4. Whatever problems you have, someone else is going through hell
When I read the story of Noura Hussein, the 19 year old Sudanese girl who is facing a death sentence for apparently stabbing her rapist of a husband, I realized just how blinded we are of our own problems.
Here is a teenager, with her whole life ahead of her and in just the few years she has lived, she has gone through the worst and as if that is not enough, a court sentenced her to death for nothing but defending herself. Her entire family, the people who are supposed to look out for her, have all turned against her.
Every day, we all have to deal with countless number of problems. That is life and it will never be perfect.
Sure, some problems may seem like the end of you, but somehow when you think about it, you’ve gotten through that.
But there is someone somewhere going through worse.  If you were told to walk a mile in their shoes, you would give up and vise versa.
And when you think about it, there is someone somewhere who is even going through worse than Noura. Problems don’t away. It is how you deal with them that make a difference.

5. You have to fight for what you want
Nobody will hand you a perfect life on a silver platter. It is your job to curve out a future for yourself.
How about instead of wasting your time thinking about how others around you got lucky, you take matters into your own hands and live your life exactly the way you want to?
Fight for what you want, for that job, that person you love, go hang out with people who are important to you, mend your broken relationship with your parents.
Just use the time you have now to improve on what you can, rather than dwelling on a future that you can’t control.
6. Complaining is a total waste of time
There are people who live their lives always complaining and trying to be the centre of attention. They think that the world owes them a perfect life but it doesn’t.
You are responsible for your own life and complaining or playing the victim will not get you anywhere.
The world doesn’t give a hoot about your troubles because we all have stuff that we are dealing with.
Instead, learn to embrace your troubles and be a blessing in someone’ else’s life.
7. No one else’s opinion matters but your own
Caring about what other people think about you is just crazy. In reality, half the time, the people who like sharing their opinion are just projecting their own failures and insecurities onto you.
They are only hoping that they can get to live vicariously through your life just because their own sucks.
The only opinion that should matter is yours. I mean if you believe that you can accomplish anything you set your mind to, best believe that you will.
8. Nobody cares
Nobody gives a damn if your career is not going well. Nobody cares if you are not feeling well. Nobody cares that you are in a rocky place right now.
Sure, there are those who care but that’s just for a while and they move on and leave you to pick up the pieces that are your life. Everybody has stuff going on and it’s up to you to take responsibility of your own life.
What it all comes down to is…
Life is not perfect at all. Everything does not just fall in a straight line just because you want it to. In the end, life is about enjoying the beautiful moments and learning to weather the storms it brings. Most importantly, it’s about living the kind of life you want not what society dictates.
