Now Revealing How To Get Out Of Your Shell And Unto The Right Career Path

I was the kind of person who preferred to always sit at the back in every form of gathering.
Who never spoke unless spoken to.
Despite having all the right papers that portrayed me as a seasoned sales and marketing person I normally felt too self conscious and inadequate to speak in front of a large crowd.
Normally, people tend to think that people in the sales and marketing jobs have it good when it comes to matters speaking with confidence in front of crowds and even one on one.
However, the truth is we also experience our fair share of bad days when we lose out on very important deals just because we were not persuasive enough.
I have always been able to seal deals with clients on a one on one basis but I couldn’t trust myself to stand on a podium or in front of a board to give a sales pitch.
This all changed when, one day, I bumped into a friend of mine in a coffee shop who seemed to be quite in a rush.
I inquired where she was in such a rush to and that is then I got to find out about the How To Speak With Confidence class that she was dashing off to.

She recommended that I also join her that day and looking back now I know I made the right decision.
Attending the public speaking class opened my eyes to a lot of things.
For one, I always thought that being a good speaker is, something that comes to one naturally, something inborn.
But I got to learn that to be an excellent speaker is a skill that you can nature and perfect over time through continuous practice.
Also, taking my career to the next level is something I always hoped to do though I felt that there was something always holding me back but I was not sure what it was.
The class finally gave me an insight on what exactly I needed to do to further my career.
I realized the market is already saturated with individuals with all the right academic qualifications and technical skills just like me.
The academic papers can only take you so far as after 5-7 years in an industry, soft skills are fundamental if you wish to have an edge over your competition and get to the next level of your career. I decided it was time to work on my soft skills beginning with my communication skills.

What I would say was my key take away from the class was in I should always structure my message appropriately for it to achieve the desired outcome.
These are the three main parts of a speech.

  1. The introduction – This is the point you grab the listener’s attention and give an overview of the message you want to pass with an end goal in mind.
  2. The body- This is where you argue out your main points (why should they care?)
  3. The conclusion– This is where you emphasize on the action that the audience needs to take (Then what?)

More to that, I am now able to articulate my ideas clearly and aware of my default body language in front of a crowd. You actually do not have to be perfect to speak in front of a crowd but with continued practise you can be. It’s up to you to go out of your way to make yourself memorable!
