LinkedIn is a very important tool when it comes to your career. Having a profile will make you more accessible to companies looking to hire. If you still don’t have a LinkedIn profile then it is about time you get one.
Most recruitment managers, use LinkedIn to look for people to fill positions that they have, this means that having a profile is not enough; you need to ensure that it can be found.
A good LinkedIn profile can ensure you don’t have to look for a job because you are being headhunted for positions you qualify for.

Here are some tips to make your profile work for you
1. Put in the time to make it awesome
Having a complete LinkedIn Profile will better your chances of getting found by employers as opposed to having one without your full details.
This means that you need to get a side enough time to work on ensuring your profile is complete and you have given sufficient information.
You should not be lazy when setting up your profile. Fill every section don’t leave anything out.
2. Get a custom URL
When you join LinkedIn your profile URL usually contains generic numbers. Changing this to your name will better your chances of getting found by more employers.
How do you do this? Go to the edit profile screen, at the bottom of the window that shows your basic information, you’ll see a Public Profile URL. Click “Edit” next to the URL, and specify what you’d like your new URL to be. When you’re finished, click Set Custom URL.
3. Have a great photo
Another very important thing to remember when it comes to your profile is to ensure that you use a professional photo as your profile picture.
Unlike other social media platforms, this is not the place for you to use that picture you took while out with friends.

LinkedIn is a professional platform; therefore, the photo you use should portray your professionalism.
An employer will decide whether to click on your profile based on the photo you use so you need to ensure it is one that would make want to view your profile.
4. Write a good headline
This is what anyone will see first if they find your profile after a search, this is your so what and should be good enough to make the employer want to see what you have to offer.
Having a poorly done headline or worse no headline at all will drastically reduce your chances of getting shortlisted for job opportunities.
5. Treat your profile like your CV
Remember you want to get interviews through your profile so it is only right that you treat it like your CV.
That means use your profile to highlight your skills and qualifications and basically sell yourself as the right candidate for the jobs you are targeting.
Remember to use bullets to highlight, what you have done and what you have achieved.
6. Avoid buzzwords
Buzzwords are overly used words on LinkedIn such as creative, effective, driven and many others. They are the equivalent of clichés on your CV such as hardworking.
You need to be more creative, remember your profile is not the only one that will come up after a search, what will make the employer click on yours is how unique it is.
