6 Habits You May Not Even Realize Are Preventing You From Succeeding

By Lilian Wamaitha
The way you live your life today is a testament of how your future will look like.
If you are used to doing things just to please other people, you will never know the joy of being yourself and living your life for you.
Life is never perfect as you know and once in a while you will go through things that will make you question your very existence.
But what plays a major role in your life are small habits that we take for granted.
That sad, here are annoying habits that you may not realize are preventing you from achieving your goals.
1. Focusing on everyone’s success and not your own story
Admit it; we all have this habit of focusing so much on the success of others and what has gone well for them that we forget that we are on totally different paths in life.
Create your own story. You may not realize it but you have everything you need to succeed if you just focus on yourself.
Sure you can use other people’s success as a motivation to chase your own dream but don’t make the mistake of chasing their success and not yours.
You are unique and in as much as you would want to be like that person you admire, you can never be. They curved their own success and so should you.
2. Not taking risks
“Waiting for the perfect moment” is so over rated.
There is no perfect time to do what you have always wanted to do. Things will always come up, fears that you can never do it and before you know it you are right where you started, waiting for that moment to take the reap of faith!
Just think about something you have always wanted to do – start a business, quit your job for a more fulfilling role – yet no matter how hard you try you just can’t do it.
Today you are waiting to save enough or giving your job a second chance.
Just get up and do it! Take that risk and see where it takes you.
3. Dwelling on past failures
I understand, it’s hard not being critical of yourself when you mess up. You hate yourself and feel like you are not good enough.
It’s okay to feel that from time to time but you are ruining your life when you allow those past failures to become part of your life.
We all make mistakes so quit being so hard on yourself. We are all carrying around baggages that we wish others would never know about so you are not alone.
Feel bad for some time but move on. Make more mistakes but strive to turn them into lessons.

4. Dwelling on difficulties
A bad day is just that – a bad day! You just don’t have to make anything out of it.
Your life will not be perfect and there will be times of adversity but you don’t have to let them affect who you are.
You don’t have to keep dwelling on how your friends disrespected you or how your boss just went out on you in anger.
These are things that don’t have anything to do with how your life will turn out. These are just setbacks and if they don’t affect your life in future, let go of them and the anger they come with.
What it all boils down to is
You control your life and everyday will not be perfect but the greatest strength is choosing to move past that and focus on what matters. Your future is still bright and you shouldn’t let one event ruin that for you.
