Good News! Teacher’s Training College Entry Grade Now Lowered To A D+

The Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) through its Director, Dr Juma Mukhwana has finally lowered the entry requirements for diploma and certificate (P1) courses for those wanting to pursue teaching.
Dr Juma has declared that that those with D+ and above in KCSE examination will be now be in a position to be admitted to teacher training college in Kenya to pursue a P1 courses.
He revealed that KNQA had been in talks with all stakeholders to keep them informed on the developments.
On the other hand, Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed raised concern over the low number of candidates applying to join teacher training colleges yet the government is investing a lot of resources in the sector.
She said the ministry has to address this issue, or else they will not get secondary and primary school teachers in future.
“We are phasing out P1 teachers. Those joining next year will not study for a certificate, but a diploma,” said the Cabinet Secretary.
