Get Practical Accounting Experience: How To File Taxes & QuickBooks Usage – Monday 26th November 2018

“Last week I attended an accounts assistant interview that I was very sure I would get. After all, someone had referred me for the position and I thought that due to that I already had an edge over other applicants. As expected, I was invited for the interview but even before it ended, it was clear that I was not getting the job. The person interviewing me was very frank and told me that they were looking for someone with experience. I had six months internship experience and thought I fit what they were looking for in the job description. However, I didn’t have the practical skills they were looking for. They wanted someone who could file taxes, statutory and is conversant with QuickBooks all of which I didn’t have. I had missed enrolling for the CSS practical accounting skills training before and the only thing I could think about as I left that interview room was how I was to blame for missing out on that opportunity to launch a career for the first time in accounting. Over and above everything however, that interview has taught me so much and I am currently enrolled for the ongoing Practical Accounting Skills Training with the hope that when I am done, I will never be in the position I was last week –  Priscilla Maina – Cohort 11 (19^th-23^rd November).
